I agree. Had I not been able to push a button and have it replayed time and time again, I wouldn't have figured it out as quickly, if at all. If used but once in a show, I think it would be successful. Perhaps moving on to a few different bend tricks would help the spex forget what they saw and when.

Drew is right. In the clip it looks much too mechanical..no speech or time subtelties preceivable...which surely will be on the video if released.(?)
I like it if it comes near to the real thing...so it has to look and FEEL natural. just bending thoughts P |

Wow!
6 full pages. I am honored that this one effect has garnered so much attention. Almost magic unto itself! I was in a local eatery last nite. I did some spoon bending and twisting, and made the spoon spin in circles. I had the whole place watching me. Customers, cooks, waitresses. everybody. The one thing I didn't do was a 'card trick' or 'coin trick'. No magic to kill the mentalism. While sitting their, I also came up with a killer peice of mentalism for a gumball machine. You predict the next color piece of gum that will come out of the machine. Everytime with 100% accuracy. you can even let them put in the quarter and turn the handle and even open the door and get out the gum! Did I mention it is impromptu? Chad |

I can't get your clip to play. All I get is several pages of gibbersh. Any ideas? |

Perhaps I was a bit hasty in suggesting that this bend isn't deceptive - Drew & Co. are right in pointing out that a lot of the presentation is lost on the video demo but all of the "work" seems to be put in in one go which makes it look bad.

Hi,
I have seen Chad do the bend and have also viewed the video. The video does no justice to the effect. When mixed with even minor misdirection, the effect is good. Stan |

(or geller!- that was 4 u shimi, although i do wonder why this forum spent so long debating this pointless issue..why dont we all stop imposing on people our own views on what is ethichal and leave it to the law!

The main bend I do is a variation of the bend taught in Penn and Teller's book, which is a levering move (is it at all similar? Wish I could get that clip to work!). I like to make the handle begin bending slightly upward at first, before it descends, to give the impression of the metal sort of "warping" at first. Great fun to do for dates in a restaurant -- when she does a double take and asks how the hell I did that, I sort of look around to make sure no one's listening, and whisper in her ear, "hot fingers, I guess... some things just squirm when I touch them..." Finally saw the clip (thanks for the help, Paradox). It looks like a gorgeous piece of work to me, Chad. With the right presentation it will blow some minds! And it obviously takes a bit more chutzpa to perform than the bend I do... and yeah, after repeated viewings it becomes a bit more clear how it's done, but I think it will be beautiful and well worth it. Can't wait! Seth |
