Hello Lynnef. Making up decks with spares, this we all do but I think it is very bad show to bring out a card case that well worn and tatty, in fact it is almost as bad as dirty nails. So, in answer to your question re boxes in bulk, I do buy new boxes in bulk, they come flat and just need the base sticking with Pritt stick or the like. They are rediculously cheap! They must be available at many dealers but I get mine from Magicbox in the UK.

I use several cabinets with drawers the width of card boxes for organization at home.
Similar to marking the bar code, I just mark the bottom of the box. If you're using Bikes, it says "bicycle poker 808", so using a blue/red sharpie, I change the last number. So this way, since I only have maybe a dozen stacked/gimmicked decks, it's easy to notice 801, 802, 80R, etc.
