Whilst I believe ive lost a bit of credability with my bumpoowee post - I do think that this needs to be shared
Every single kids show now I remember everyone of their names. I do it instantly - the most I have done is 90 kids in school uniform!! I can continue doing it even if I'm doing 3,4 or 5 shows in a day this has changed the control that I have over the audience by 90% I secretly (if I can) learn all there names then as I have theem all sitting down I get them all to shout out there names at the same time. I then reel off their names at high speed without hesitaition - of course sometimes I stumble. - the parents fall over in amazement and I get a real kick out of doing it But now instead of 'oi you - in the red t-shirt' its 'daniel are you ok can you sit down for me, thanks' It personalise things so very much and the kids love that I know ther names. HOW? - simple memory technique of association Use Your Head - Tony Buzan worth its weight in gold Labels I hear you cry - just use labels! mostly parents don't use them and if they do they fall off - also before I start I go round read all the labels - then get them to sit down - then they shout out their names and cover up their labels and still do it Seriously ladies and gents I get bookings on the back of this simple technique (yes it does take a bit of practice) - 'are you the guy that remembers all the kids names' have a go |

Wow!
Make a point of it! Heck, make an EFFECT out of it (after all, isn't the "instant massive memory" bit a classic effect of mentalism?) You're already HALF-famous for it ... focus a little more on it and get REALLY famous for it as a well-known trademark! |

Are they in your long term memory, or short term?
Just wondering if you can place a kid down the road at another event, without them being the kid that drove you crazy? Every performer can remember THAT one! Hehehe! I, too am pretty good at being able to remember the names at a birthday party, and often get compliments from parents. But its mostly short term. Haven't tried it from a list, though. Actually, I am a little surprised that a school would give you a list with all the children's names, for privacy sake. You'll have to tell us how you arranged for something like that, if we were to perform such a stunt. - Donald

Just quickly I'm in a rush!
its short term - but if I don't do a show for a week ill still remember their names, their clothes and where they were sitting! but when I do the next show it all goes. I don't use lists - I ask the kids their names in the case of the school it was 4 classes coming in at slightly staggered times so I had a chance to do thirty then a breather then another thirty etc |

You didn't lose creditability with me! Humor is in the body of the listener, and if presented right, all is OK. With some others, well, we each have to live with our choices.
At my Age I keep forgeting who I am! On Stage I'm Dennis Michael, and I sometimes slip and say Dennis Dowhy. OPPS! Tough to be over 50. Thanks for the line, "What did you say your name was?" ... Bobby ... "Just want to make sure you haven't forgotten it!" The parents over forty can relate to this and the grand parents find it hysterical. I seem to remember the names of the hecklers in the audience more than the Birthday Child!

Graemesd Great information! As for the bumpoowee..well I am sure you only do it in the right situations. I have read children entertainers who tell ya that a passing poo comment will make kids fall over laughing. its not Dirty to use.
Thanks for the tip here though! Chris |
