I find that this whole effect can be used like many other sleights. I just pick up a deck of cards and start improvising using different sleights, but the two card monte has become another component. It's just brilliant!

How can you do the two cards monte by picking up a deck?
Do you normally carry the double backer and double facer needed for the two card monte in your deck??? |

I'm still wondering what other forums or sites that access these boards??? Also how come you can get into the "Street Magic" forum but not the other ones??? That doesn't make any sense. What do you need to do to get into all the forums?? Another thing is, why don't the people who can only access some of the forums just go through a different site??? OK one last question, I came to the forum through themagiccafe.com, so what boards can I access and which boards am I missing out on???

Two-Card Monte is a trick using two gimmicked cards, one double-face, and one double back. This has been discussed and re-discussed on this board.
Anyone who calls Eddie Fechter's trick "Be Honest, What is It?" by the name "Two-Card Monte" is obviously a newbie and rank beginner. It is difficult to take anything said by such a person seriously. Calling a famous trick by a famous magician by some made-up name is ridiculous, confusing, and disrespectful. If a young beginning carpenter came to a job site and called a hammer a "banger" and a wrench a "turner thingie" and refused to change his nomenclature when corrected by the older and more experienced guys, he would be laughed off the job. Please do a search on "Be Honest" and "Two-Card Monte" before posting here. |

For the record, Theodore Deland released the DB/DF idea.

If there is a different version, I would like to hear about it though. PM me if you have any details. Never mind, now I see my mistake. Thanks to whithaydn for pointing out that I don't know the Two card monte. Apparently I was referring to Be Honest, What is It?. I learned this from my teacher under the name of Two Card Monte. My apologies. |

You'd want those cards because those are the cards used to perform "two-card monte."

I understand now! Mea culpa! Magna Mea Culpa!
But Just another thought: What if I always happened to have a double backer and double facer card in any color/back ever made? Then it would be cake to perform with a borrowed deck. |

Apology accepted. It's now your obligation to correct the next person you hear make this mistake. Trust us, once you've done it 3 or 4...hundred times, it'll get a little frustrating. But we don't charge dues, so it's a small price to pay.
Regarding your db/df idea, it's a good one, so good that you're thinking like Vernon. The story goes that he carried around double-back cards made with all the common back designs. At an opportune time he'd excuse himself, get the card ready and then add it to the borrowed deck. You probably wouldn't need many double-facers, since the faces of many decks are indistinguishable. While this is off on a tangent, it is good to carry around odd gaffs that you make yourself.
For instance, using a really cheapo deck like stud or gemanco or something and having a double backer, depending on the use it would fool most magicians that wouldn't think you could get gaffed cards in those brands(you just have to split them yourself). Intresting idea and depending on the time can be extremely disarming to a magician. |

I'm trying to make my own double faced cards, but they keep on falling apart!
What should I do? |
