As a disclaimer to everyone, it should be known that I know Michael Baker well. I am going to submit a review of one of his routines titled The Last Adventure of Diamond Jack. I have used this routine for the last two years after seeing Michael perform it in his lecture.
Of Michael's creations, this one is my favorite. The Last Adventure of Diamond Jack is a story with a deck of cards. What separates this from the others is that this one includes magical moments in the process of the story. For many years I had used another popular routine using the entire deck of cards. For the past two years I have only used The Last Adventure of Diamond Jack. Having played this routine at banquets, parties, and even on the street, it receives a better response than any other "story routine" I have used. And it plays well in all the forementioned performing situations. The routine takes a small amount of time to remember, but the story flows easily as it has a logical beginning, middle, and ending. There are no difficult sleights involved. The story also includes a few one-liners that are great. I was hoping that I would one day have the exclusive performing rights to this routine, but Michael has decided to let it go to everyone else. If you are looking for an entertaining routine to add to your show, this one is a real gem. Buy it, learn it, and play it up! Check out The Last Adventure of Diamond Jack. |
