Hello everyone,
I am working on developing a new parlor size illusion. I have ran into one main problem. In the effect, I was planning on using in visible thread, but it will not do. I am trying to steer clear of black art, so I am looking for the most thin and invisible black wire available. The objective would be to have something anchored about 5 inches in front of another object to appear still, but floating. What kind of wire may be feasable, and any suggestions on where to obtain it would be great. Sorry about the lack of detail, but once this thing is done, I will let you know all about it. Thanks, Beau

What is the weight you are flying. That will also determine what wire can be used.

Hey Michael,
I wont be really floating or lifting anything in illusion terms, just want to be able to anchor something about the size of a jumbo card or a bit larger, and about the same weight, so it will sit still, and look like it is floating in front of the object the wire is anchored to. Thanks man! Peace- Beau Alexander

Hi
Have a look in model shops at the wire that is used to move control surfaces on model aircraft. Also to darken it try gun blue from a firearms shop. HTH Paula

I have heard about the tearam blue gunned before. I even remeber seeing a website that specialized in thin wires and gun blue.
Is gun blue to make the wire more invisible? Depending on the background. If you used a mylar type of background, would it blend in more if blue gunned?

Thank you all very much for your input. I will check out the hobby store wire, and the gun blue. I am trying to avoid special back drops, so is that the thinnest and most invisible wire that is available without a mylar or black backdrop?
Thanks Again, Beau

Hi
The gun blue is far lighter than applying paint and creates a non reflective coating on ferros based metals. Paula

It reactes with the surface of the metal and produces a rust resistant coating - the advantage of using it in this case is the weight and thickness increase is very very small. http://www.gunsandammomag.com/techside/blue_0515/ Paula
