I've done thread work for about two years now and love it, but I still haven't found a quality-made, reliable ITR. I always have the problem of after a few retracts, the thread doesn't seem to pull all the way in and I have to tear the whole thing apart (which I'm sure you all know how hard this can be). My question is, what is the preferred ITR by all of you thread workers. I'm not looking for a cheap fix, but a real quality ITR that won't require a lot of maintenance. Thanks guys!

Why do you "tear the whole thing apart"? Just roll the IT into the w** ball.

I've tried that but sometimes it's just too loose, like it leaves up to 8 inches out. If I keep doing that it becomes way too much thread in the ball. Thanks for the idea though.

If you have the tension right you shouldnt get left with so much that you need to take the unit apart and rewind it.
As was suggested, roll it up into the w** ball. Use it and roll it up again, and after a couple of times, you should have the length and tension about right. I have a couple; a cheap indian one, and a Kevlar one from Sorcery, and the biggest difference is that Sorcery IR is easier to restring when needed. But they both need adusted by rolling the excess, several times, after reloading it. BroDavid

Is an ITR hard to maintain?
Is it worth it? Cheers! Logan P.S. Thinking of getting one too...

The best one I've used is the Mini Boss by Sorcery. Very small, and very easy to manage. Great for close-up work.
Any of the original ITRs are good -- just don't get any of the 2000, 2001 and so on series. They are not that good and break very easily. Spend the extra money and buy an original, you won't be disappointed.

I have them all and have not found one yet that is maintenance free.
Though the ITR Thread Boss seems to me to be the best of breed, so far. |

The only ones that I have tested were the ones created by sorcery shop, and also the cheap indian ITRS. The ones by sourcery are 100X better. Again sorry james and sorry kevin james Ps: probably I was drunk that day, we never know |

I have a couple of cheap Indian ITR's. One broke and it was impossible (for me anyway) to fix it. I have had pretty good luck with the other one.
Be careful around kids, when they see something floating they want to grab it. I have also had some luck with loops, they work great at restaurants where they serve peanuts. I asked the table next to me (they had some kids) if they had ever heard of a Mexican jumping bean? Well, there is also a Mexican jumping peanut. Don't believe me? watch... I made the peanut walk off the table into my hand then shelled and ate it. They actually stood up and cheered! Ahhh, the things you will do after a few beers... Grant |

I have tested several ITR and I prefer The Ultimate Float Controller. The Mini Boss by Sorcery is also an excellent choice.

A friend of mine does Yigal Mesika's "Electric Spider Pen" and it will blow your freaking mind. It's reviewed in the September 2004 issue of Genii. You can get it from http://www.yigalmesika.com.

Hi Aron,
I sent an email to the address you posted. It came back with an error, mail failure. Is Yigal's email up and running? Thanking you, Gerard |

Neves is so on the money with the fact that the spider pen is way much better than anything out there. I gave up IT work for years until picking up this beauty and I can't put it down. Hence the crack reference, right on Nev!

I highly recommed the "Underground TM" by Mark Allen.
It is the BEST reel for closeup. Most especially because it is the only reel that has actual invisible thread. I mean INVISIBLE. Like you can't see it. At all. Any time, anywhere, any lighting. |

Hi Zack,
This reel sounds fantastic! What's Mark Allen's Web address? Thanking you, Gerard |
