The Ted Lesley DVD's suffered from a number of problems, not the least of which was Ted's Parkinsonism. There were also some staging problems, because the people at L&L were not set up properly for the way he did his show.
Ted came over here in the fall of 2003, so he could visit the Parkinson's Foundtion in Houston (Michael J. Fox is also connected to this group). Dr. Jankovic, who is the head of the foundation is also one of my old magic students. In an hour he did more for Ted than the German doctors had done in a couple of years. He rebalanced Ted's medications, which gave him much more energy. After that appointment, Ted and I went on the road for six weeks, doing a lecture tour that took us to San Antonio, El Paso, Denver, Wichita, Fort Worth, Leawood, Chicago and Cleveland. His condition was fairly stable except for the appearance in Chicago. He had some problems there. The following March, Ted came back to Houston to perform gratis at the Parkinson's Foundation Gala. When he marched out on the stage, I would have sworn it was the "old" Ted, from before the Parkinson's. After he performed, our MC said, "By the way, Mr. Lesley is a Parkinson's patient." There was a gasp, and an even bigger round of applause. But Ted did not want them to announce it before he went out, because he did not want "mercy" applause. The prediction is not a re-hash of an Al Mann bit. It's actually from a completely different source. Ted did not originate it, but he refined it. He performed it while we were on the road as part of his master class. There were a number of items in the master class which Ted had worked out from a source in Bolivia. He got permission from the originator to use them, because they were too good to let slide. One of them was a money "prediction" that we had one method for when we left Houston and by the time we got back we had eight methods. Out of those eight methods, four are really strong. Those will be in another manuscript. Ted will be writing these, and I will be translating and publishing them. They will be foist cless all the way. One of the reasons I am so grouchy is that I do care.

First of all, thank God that Ted is doing better, a man like him should not be made to suffer.
Second, if you look up a T.A Waters idea, he talks about the balloon prediction idea with a Jak's billet knife to pop the balloon. I don't know the name of the effect, but me saying that within this context should explain itself. |

Ted is actually fairly comfortable working in English. He speaks it to the level of thinking in the language, and he has carefully worked out his scripts and polished them. However, one of the symptoms of Parkinson's is that he tended to salivate excessively. This caused him some problems. The other was that he had a great deal of difficulty walking at the time.
When he performed at the Gala here, he did four items. He did the six card repeat, which is the opener he used at La Vie en Rose in Berlin. He did his three card revelation, the Sough of Horse's Wings (with the Teleportation envelope) and the Linking Finger Rings. They wanted him to cut the show down a bit, and had actually cut him from 35 minutes to 20 minutes. I asked them if they really wanted to cut him back any more -- after all, he had flown in from Berlin. They stopped cutting back at that point. The crowd was huge. There were 45 round tables, each seating 10 people. To help everyone see what was going on, there were two large video screens, one on each side of the stage. The Six Card Repeat went over tremendously well. So did everything else. When he did the Linking Finger Rings, you would have thought he had just fed 5000 people with loaves and fishes. If there had ever been any question in my mind about the value of any of this material or Ted's ability as an entertainer, it was completely erased at that point. Ted probably will never work again, but he will be publishing things he put together over the years. I hate to use cliches, but these will be the real work. I will make absolutely sure that everything that comes out is of the highest quality. Ted and I make a good team of crochety old men who love mentalism!
