Dear Café,
I just got my hands on some strange lecture notes from an individual named Patrick Redford. I was wondering if anyone had any more knowledge about this ellusive individual. Inside there is a TON of knowledge that seems like it's really been well honed. I found the strongest piece of this manuscript was the information on approaching tables while performing close up. Theres even a mentalism tattoo watch effect which is very cool! Though not everything is mentalism based, there still is a large mentalism section in the notes. I would like to know if anyone has any knowledge of this performer and his other works. |

This may help. I posted this on another thread but it's appropriate here:
I just finished working through George Tait’s “Diapason.” I have seen George perform for real people several times. George bends, not only metal, but also their minds. His magic is quite unique as is his booklet “Diapason,” which, by the way, means “The entire range of an instrument or voice. A full, rich outpouring of harmonious sound.” George does not call himself a magician but rather a “psychological illusionist.” And “Diapason” is not really a collection of magic tricks, although most of the items therein, taken out of context, are tricks. In context they are performance pieces, complete with patter suggestions and advice on presentational possibilities. Mr. Tait’s patter may not work for everyone but it is certainly worth checking out, if only to gain insight into new ways to approach presentation and character development. Besides “tricks” you will find in “Diapason” a few essays. For example “The Cold Table” which gives advice to restaurant workers (of which George is one) on the dreaded approach to the table. You will also find well-constructed routines (complete with patter) using cards, coins (called dream tokens), rubber bands and ESP cards. You will find items that use no props at all - only the spectators’ hands, brains and eyes. It is difficult to categorize this material since most of the items seem to bridge the gap between mentalism and magic. “Diapason” is not your typical magic book. It is a refreshing departure from the usual and an interesting voyage into the unusual. Good work Mr. Tait. Mike Powers

Patrick G. Redford is an interesting character, I would know - trust me. These lecture notes, "DIAPASON", contain some of the best work that Mr. Redford has to offer. You'll learn how to describe a photograph that’s being thought of from a borrowed stack of pictures that you've never seen. You'll learn how to make a tattoo watch come to life and keep real time. You'll even learn on the spot mentalism that requires absolutely no props of any kind.
Now the content isn't all mentalism but this is a lecture publication aimed to have something for everyone to enjoy. I am confident that you'll find many pieces within that will inspire and pieces that you'll be excited to perform. There have been so many wonderful comments that have flooded my way that I am truly honored and humbled. Thank you for supporting both Patrick Diapason and myself (if you don't mind me thanking you twice.) Kindest Regards, -George Tait |
