I concur. The problem I have is that myths are perpetuated by Geller as to whether or not he "shut Randi down." The reality of the situation is that Geller has lost every time he's sued a skeptic. You can read for yourself Randi's frequent comments about him in his commentary, and you can check out JREF's financial status (as all 501 c 3s are required to submit IRS form 990) on guidestar.com
Now, why Geller and why not others? I think it goes back to Johnny Carson, of all people. Johnny Carson is a direct link between Geller and Randi, and Mr. Carson was a very big skeptic (and a magician). He had asked Randi to come on to debunk Geller. After that, Geller started the lawsuits. Randi, being a fiesty man, turned up the heat. And they both played off each other all the way through the 80s and well into the 90s. That said, though, Randi does go after others. You can read his commentary weekly to see that. |

First of all everyone and their uncle knows that Randi put his hands up and paid Geller out of court. It's a simple fact. I've been looking through newspaper and magazine archives online and I haven't turned this up yet. If anyone knows of any specific articles with dates I'd much appreciate it. I'm curious about the facts pertaining to the Randi/Geller debate. Thanks. |

There is one argument that says: We are ALL frauds. It's just that some of us, for some reason, want Uri Geller to say "I'm a fraud" also.
He ain't gonna' do it... so maybe we're gonna' have to let it go and just try not to let him bother us so much, since it's obviously driving 'some of us' mad.

Not really. If you think this bothers me, you don't understand me. I'm a soccer referee I've had my opinions and judgements questioned before. It doesn't mean I get upset by that.

*laughs* No, typically I'm in my yellows or reds. Occasionally I wear the blacks, but that is vicious, since it retains all that heat.
But I'm one of the good guys |

Geller won't go away because he is still successful doing what he does. People generally want to believe. "True psychic power" suggests that life is more than it appears to be and that maybe, just maybe, death is not a final void. Randi, in my opinion, seems much more strident than he needs to be. In addition, demonstrating how Geller may have done something doesn't prove that that's the method he actually used. No one here is saying that Geller is a genuine psychic. But, come on, guys like David Blaine and Derren Brown obviously studied Geller's persona and presentation very carefully. Regardless of what you think of his abilities or his ethics one has to acknowledge his significance. |

...demonstrating how Geller may have done something doesn't prove that that's the method he actually used. I don't think it's only a matter of speculation. Some have claimed to actually have seen Geller "cheat," ie, bend the spoon with his hand during misdirection, or whatever. If he can bend metal with his mind, why not do it with the spoon in full view the entire time, without touching it? Quote:

This in their culture is considered a dark art. I have seen them do things that is beyond my explaination, that is why I am not actually a skeptic. I do believe that there is more to this world than meets the eye. I just beleive that if you want to claim that you are a real psychic, then do so, properly, not by using mentalist tricks, which you claim are paranormal.
