For those willing to give the info, what was the most effective means you have used to reach schools in your area(website, mail, cold-call etc...).(I'm out in Texas). Thank you, ROY

Roy,
One of the most effective people in that business in your part of the country was Bobo. He was from Texarkana. There may still be some VHS videos around. The current one drawing a lot of attention in Texas is Oscar Munoz. Trixie Bond in Houston is another who may have something to offer you. I really recommend that you find away to attend Kidabra in August. It is for those in the business of childrens' magic. kidabra.com Good Luck! Keep at it! Bob Magic By Sander |

I never liked the way that Bobo priced his show. He basicaly charged a "per student" fee. This may have worked back in the 50's, but in today's market his can backfire. Larger schools are just as hard-hit by budget constraints as smaller schools. Just like rich private clients don't like being fleeced, neither do larger schools. You are doing the same show whether you are in front of 75 students, or 300 students -- why the rate difference?
As for reaching them, postcards or flyers. Send a lot of pieces -- things tend to get thrown out at schools. So several cheaper pieces will get you noticed easier than one expensive piece. A lot of people have success with phone calls, but that's just too time-consuming for me. |

Phone calls are a drag and traveling to make sales calls is also a hassle. But I know of nothing more effective than getting to know the buyers in your market. People generally give the busiess to someone they know.
