Did anybody else see Help on BBC2 last night?

It’s a series about a psychiatrist (played by Chris Langham) and some of his patients (each of whom is played by Paul Whitehouse).

One of the patents in last night’s episode was a conjuror. And his problem was that he wasn’t a conjuror, he was an actual magician.

He thought of a dove, and a dove appeared. The shrink then asked if he could make a rabbit appear, so he unzipped his flies and pulled out a rabbit. He offered the rabbit to the shrink, who said that he didn’t want it, and the rabbit vanished. And more in that vein.

His problem was that he felt guilt because all his fellow conjurors were so skilful at conjuring, and he didn’t have that skill. He felt that he was a fraud.

An entertaining sketch. And thought-provoking sketch for conjurors.

The characters in that series tend to carry over from week to week, so I recommend watching next week’s episode in case there’s more of “the fake conjuror.”

Was the patient played by Paul Whitehouse. Was it good magic?

As I said, each of the patients is played by Paul Whitehouse. So the answer is yes.

It was "real-looking" magic. That is to say, it was camera trickery. Very nicely done.
