Ok, Caleb mentions in Dale Hildebrant's Newsletter, "Other Stuff", that his book should be out like NOW. Now Caleb has mentioned that book, Garden of the Strange, on the forum before. If you have read Caleb's stuff on the forum, and now in "Other Stuff", you know what a great bizarre thinker he is. So knowing there is a book out there that I don't have is akin to the dread of awaiting the Deep Ones.
So Caleb...Where and When do I buy it?

Clifford,
Sorry about that one slipping through - when I wrote that 'out now' bit, I mistakenly thought that my issue of 'Other Issue' would be appearing towards the end of this year, when 'The Garden of the Strange' should be available. As for the book, well it has been beautifully laid-out by David de Leon, and aside from a couple of things (Title and Contents pages), it's all but ready to go to Luke for printing and distribution. I'm sorry it's taken so long. I'll let you know the moment it's ready. Regards, Caleb Strange.

Caleb my friend!
Oh nothing to be sorry about, we're just anxious that's all! I know the pains of publishing a tome. Take as long as you need to make it outstanding. I am used to waiting as I am an addicted Miracle Factory book buyer. They are GORGEOUS books and boy do they take a long time! But I wouldn't want em any faster if they wouldn't be as nice. And BTW, your issue of Other Stuff - BRILLIANT! I love your opening essay and the mazes and HECK everything! And now I have this strange predeliction to watching TV static... Anyway, good to hear the news and I await patiently...

Speaking of 'Static'...many of the new TV sets when a station or signal is not present or detected, automatically go to Blue Screen these days...one might try this excellent effect using an older Televison.

The book is now finished, and is with its publisher, Luke Jermay. I don't know any more than that, but will post details when I have them. Many thanks for your continued interest .
Regards, Caleb Strange.

Also awaiting the book, and in the mean time, the unused channel and static reminded me of the opening sentence in William Gibson's Neuromancer.
And with that, "cyberspace" And a question: How might one tell if one was in a simulated environment versus awake and sensing things through one's ordinary experince? The not so old live versus memorex question.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

In answer to Clifford's question:
The book was revised in late summer - reviewers alerted me that one routine inadvertently duplicated someone else's unpublished work. So the offending routine was removed and replaced by two non-plagiarising others. Luke is now arranging publication through a third source, which, I've been told, should speed things up a bit. In immediate answer to Jonathan's question: I'm not sure how one could distinguish between these two situations, unless there were clues in simulation itself? Jolts, maybe, from the overplayed tape, or continuity errors, or perhaps patterns visible in the reruns? Regards, Caleb Strange.

Thanks for the update!
And Jonathon, just so you know, I am the only one that is real. You have all been created for my amusement.

Mark, I read the first one and the other three are on hold pending some massive free time.
It was quite a ride. He sure has a thing for epic plots!

Hi Guys,
I just want to give you the heads up on a new book which is coming out very soon! I know a lot of you have been waiting for it. Here's the blurb.... In 2003, Luke Jermay invited Caleb Strange to write a book: nearly four years in the making, The Garden of the Strange is the brilliant result. This beautifully written, deeply affecting book takes Mr. Strange’s trademark blend of innovative thinking and stunning presentations to the next level. With twenty compelling and original routines, and an additional half-dozen ‘from your pocket’ variations, this eagerly awaited work will be of great use and interest to mentalists, bizarrists, and table-hoppers alike. Yet beyond its fine, audience-centred effects, The Garden of the Strange contains something more, of equal value to the working performer. For tucked away within its full and thorough notes, the attentive reader will find explained a wide range of powerful yet often neglected techniques (linguistic, literary, theatrical), which can be used to maximise the impact and enhance the quality of one’s work. The Garden of the Strange, then, is a thrilling and, above all, fresh exploration of the art of the impossible: a lyrical and accomplished volume, it has been called, more than once, ‘the most inspiring book of magic I have yet read’. Regards Peter This will be on pre order from our site within the next few days. http://www.alakazam.co.uk |

Ah! At long last! Some of these Bizarre Tomes take a circuitous journey, surely the demons fighting the release of such arcane knowledge.
Please keep us apprised of when it will be available!
