Hello,
Can anyone help with recommending a book/DVD/other please that has a good explanation of solid through solid performances with an escapology feel (I'm a mentalist & haven't any real knowledge in this particular area)? I'm looking for a specific effect that involves a secured arm appearing to pass through plastic cable ties. I've tried finding commercial props but haven't had any success, any ideas pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. If you'd like to know more of what I'm up to I'd be happy to explain via PM. Thanks! |

Are you talking about black tie by Kenton? It's a version of the thumb tie with cable ties.

Hello,
No, I don't think so. In this effect the person is strapped to a chair by the arms. |

You need to look up some of the old spiritualist stuff. Many mediums used ties like what (I think) you're describing. It shouldn't make much difference if you're using ropes, or plastic ties.

Thanks. I've ordered facsimilie copies of "The Key to Ghostism (1880)" & "Revelatios of a spiritualist Medium (similar date)" - both apparently packed with goodies - in the meantime though, I thought that some of my esteemed colleagues in different branches of magic might be able to come up with some novel ideas too - maybe we could formulate some better effects & create performances that could knock the socks off the "nickel & dime" performers. I know that I've a few ideas myself!
