To all magic builders:
If you are interested in magic building, have some tips to share, or want to improve your knowledge and skills in those areas, check the message board at PMZZ. We are a new forum dedicated strictly to magic building, predominately woodworking, although other areas are definitely not discouraged. We feel they all lead to the same end... the conception, design, prototyping, and building of quality magic apparatus. In addition, there are discussions on general workshop organization and efficiency. We also have some good chit-chat, and fun! Our membership is growing daily (I barely have time to keep up with all the posts now!), and some of magic's most respected builders are on board. So, if this is something of interest to you, give us a look! ~michael baker

With the modern day materials available today and the vast outlets via the internet, I really feel magic is going to benefit from groups like the one you are with. Materials that used to be hard to find, or too expensive for the DIY folks is now just a click away. Pictures can be shared from 1000's of miles away can be view instantly and in great detail. Ideas can be formed by groups of minds that otherwise would never know the other existed. I envision lightweight materials, RC servos, Superbright LEDs, laser pointers, Glow wire, and many other materials that have just become available to the average joe could be utilized to further the art and illusions. Sharing is what is is all about, and cooperative effort leads to masterpieces. Although I am not a regular builder, I do enjoy creating magic things. Some work, some don't. It's rewarding when it works out.

Muzicman,
It sounds like you will fit right in. I started using LEDs under my clothes for tricks. They simply shine messages through the cloth (on command!). When I did this for a Ring meeting, they seemed to think it strange. Please tell me that there are others out there that think this way too! I see all kinds of opportunities for their application. I'm also a dove worker and have some other ideas that are not ready for public consumption. However, I would appreciate an opportunity to discuss some of them with you by PM, email or phone. I have only built a couple of magic props in my years as a toymaker, but I do want to learn how and possibly make items for other magicians. I do interesting and very unusual woodworking called automata. You can see some of my work here: http://www.members.aol.com/churchmouseabc/
If anyone needs something special built, please email me with some brief specs... ~MagicAl
Magic is all around us, everywhere, every day. If you would just open your eyes to see it, you would be truly amazed.

Very cool website and fun product. I could see collectors going for magicians performing various feats such as, cups and balls, rabbit from hat, etc. Thanks for sharing!

I joined PMZZ and although I still don't know how to pronounce it or what it means, I have found a delightful company of builders of magical props and illusions. Anyone who likes to putter around the workshop can find inspiration here.
