A professor I had in college taught me how to build (what he termed) a psychometer. He also said that these devices were called PSI-meters. Basically, the contraption was a paper cylinder with a cross-beam balanced on an overturned glass bottle. Very easy to make.
He would balance the whole contraption on an upturned glass bottle via the pin point. To operate the device, he would hold his hands (slightly cupped) about six inches away from either side of the device and after about a minute, the paper cylinder would begin to rotate, apparently as a result of psychic force! Now for the off bit.... After building one of my own, I discovered that I could (with enough time and patience) cause the meter to stop and turn in the opposite direction! Has anyone here ever played with one of these devices? I'll send you details on how to build one if you are interested.

If I remember correctly, this "machine" is described in the book "Mind Machines You Can Build" by G. Harry Stine. Here's a link to the Amazon.com description:

Confession:
Last night I tried to build another prototype and it was a bomb. The whole thing hinges on getting the measurements and mass down-pat. My psychometer "leaned" to one side too much. DON'T FEAR! I'm giving it another go today and I'm in the town where my former professor lived so if push comes to pull comes to shove I can always track him down and get the details from him. Chin up, all! Psi-meter coming soon! ~M.V. Posted: Apr 1, 2005 2:13pm ------------------------------------------- More Info: This site http://shadowboxent.brinkster.net/telekinesis.html has a very similar device on it! Although not as impressive as the psi-meter I built from my professor's example, this is the same basic premise. I'll keep working on getting my professor's design into a working proto-type. His version was much "heavier" in appearance and so was a tad more intriguing then these paper pyramid types.

The interesting thing about this is Ted Lesley's "It's Paranormal" is similar to this but uses a gaff to make it work 100% of the time for you.

I wonder how much of this can be explained away using psychophysiological principles such as breath, heat, and the such but unconsciously.

How does this work for you:
When the method is unconsions, you have a perception of magic. When the method becomes conscious, you have science. ?
