I can go as far as Half Crowns.
It was great to see that Kainoa has been exploring Edge Grip. It was just Roth, Latta and yours truly for quite a while. Have you tried HPC out of EG?

I haven't worked on HPC from EG - but I have used the shuttle pass described in Roth's book for the alternate ending in hanging coins.

If you have one coin in display and others concealed in EG, a VERY cute switch of some coins displayed on the other hand kind of suggests itself too.

Jon,
Is your technique/use of EG much like what Kainoa describes in his book, or is it more what Roth has published? I don't have any of your material to refer to |

Harry published a couple of things, the coin go-return and I believe he published an "instant wildcoin" using an EG switch. Kainoa sought and obtained my permission to publish the EG2EG switch. FYI the retention to EG and what some call the :flying shuttle: is there in Apocalypse. I like David's version of the Cylinder using EG. Very good idea to use that extra coin. David is practical. Sorry the rest of my stuff did not make it into print when it was invented back in 83. My work to date (then) went out in letters ( like the fingertip/eg coins across) and a small ms called :On Edge:. The few other things I worked out are in a little ms that might get published soon. Funny thing is the folks in NYC saw most of this stuff as it was developed long ago. If we meet... feel free to ask. Or via EMAIL (NOT PM)

Gary Kurtz has a great Hanging coins routine as well as a great method for getting into edge grip. Last night I started trying out using edge grip during some coin routines and it went over very well, I don't think it's as scary of a move as it is made out to be.

Frank, I think David's right. The EG material in Gary Kurtz's "Trio" ("Unexplainable Acts") is very doable, and effective. The first two-handed production is not that hard, and looks great. The hanging sequence is also very good. Lots of effect for the effort, and a good example of "modern" applications.

I have to agree that EG is not that scary, after you make the paradigm shift...using roth, kurtz and harbottle materials. easy? that's a different matter.

Easy.... no. Had to remember to keep the thumb straight and not bend the wrist back when displaying the coin at the fingertips. Worth it... Yes.

Ok. I'll take the Kurtz Book to Hawaii with me and study Trio.

Another good coin routine in the Kurtz book is called, I think, Four Fisted. You'll like that book.

I like Trio, but it is very demonstrational, non-interactive (this is not true of all of Gary Kurtz' magic- look at the rest of Unexplainable Acts). Although coin magic was my first magical love, I was a bit disheartened for a while as I began to see that the strongest magic is the type that gets them interacting.
-Yes this interaction can be emotional or intellectual, but physical interaction really helps. So- how can we make EG routines more interactive (and so stronger for the audience)? I remember Jonathan suggesting using a sponge to "soak up" the coins in Hanging Coins (although I couldn't work it out fully myself). Any ideas? Shanester |

Well, I tried all week (during my vacation) to do some EG work
and it's not easy nor swift to get into EG from fingertip display. lots of fidgeting, etc. will continue ....

I think EG is easier with dollars, I just think they flash more for close up work. Halves flash less and you can't beat the thin barbers for stack work.
