Not even sure who makes it, it's the kind that's always available on ebay with the little orange booklet. It showed up in the mail just this morning.
It's smaller than I thought it would be, but I guess that's good, because it's palmable. The construction isn't great (i.e. the one part doesn't match the other part very well), but it's close enough that I expect it'll pass (it's only like $4 bucks + shipping, so what do you want?). the book gives a few simple routines, designed to show what kinds of effects are possible. As I recall, there are a couple of routines in Bobo's with a similarly gaffed "Chinese coin" as well, so I'm going to check that later. I bought it because I like ring and rope type effects, and I wanted to see what could be done with it. Now, it's only my first day with it, but I'm writing this review already because this thing is fun! If you don't have one, you should definitely get one! It's just so sneaky, and you can handle it in ways that are really, really unfair, but the gimmick makes them look completely fair and above board. (When using it I sort of get the same feeling as I get when doing a shuttle pass--it looks so fair and open, but it's really not.) The last trick in the booklet, the transposition of a ring under two coffee cups (I noticed that you could also use your hands sort of Chink-a-Chink style, which I think I prefer since you can palm the ring and lap it to end clean), requires a handling that is incredibly unfair, but because of the principle of the gaff, I'll bet it would totally blow by any layperson (I guess I'll find outsoon enough...). It's a totally common principle, but for some reason the full effect of it didn't hit me until playing with this ring. Anyways. Ellis ring--get one! -Travis |

I too purchased my Jardine Ellis ring from Ebay. Mind you I think I paid $6 or $7 for mine. Mind you, both parts of mine matched perfectally, maybe your was a little old, or perhaps previously used??
I agree with you though that it is a neat little thing to have. I personally use the endless rings from a silk routine in my kids shows, but there are many different ways to use this ring. It is a very deceiving prop as you mentioned, and everything that you do does look extremely fair (Which is great!) For just a few bucks, it is a nice little addition to your pocket/close up case for times when you want something a little different. |

I never see posts on the ellis ring on any of the magic forums. I have this trick and never used it. It's been sitting on my shelf for the last 5 years. Now you sparked curiosity.
