I want to record my thanks to Mick Hanzlik for all his work today.
I arrived at the venue a little early, but Mick's vehicle was already in the car park (parking lot, for the US readers:) ). Mysteriously, I could see Micks posters, equipment etc thru' the glass doors, but the doors were locked . . I supposed the Master Locksmith had "let himself in" and relocked the doors:). This was a wonderful start, very puzzling to me, and I could feel the beginning of an extraordinary day. I was not wrong! Mick's Houdini presentation was superb, with back projected video clips, photo's etc in a very smooth Powerpoint presentation that showed a lot of work and research... but we were also suprised and delighted by video greetings from Mark & Sheila Cannon (with Mark performing his Diamond Plated Steel Box Full View Escape.), then a greeting from "somewhere in Australia" -- and we were treated to a view of the McColl property, complete with Kangaroos in the middle distance (and they may have been animal robots created in the McColl workshop - who can tell?). The UKEA delegates were spellbound as we were treated to a virtual tour of Ian's workshop (every bit as tidy as Riley's workshop!), and greetings and well wishes from the Maestro himself. Thanks Ian. A real treat. This was followed by greetings from Pastor Clyde and a video demo of some neat shim and pick work with Hiatt HS cuffs. Thanks Clyde! Then, a superb tape and greetings from Mr Escape himself, Steve Baker, with clips of some of his excellent work. Wonderful stuff. Superb showmanship. Thank you Steve. Those present were: Mick Hanzlik (of course), Chris Gower, Weasel Dandaw, Alex Nichols, Tom Lyon, Joe Steward (and his grandad who drives him to UKEA meetings - thank you, we appreciate it), Kondini, Tony Gough, Nick Janson, Roslyn, Jonathan Goodwin and David Straitjacket. We had straitjacket escapes, handcuff escapes, rare cuffs and locks brought along by various people, lots of food and coffee and laughs . . . and an opportunity to check out a fabulous set of laser-cut cuffs (made by Ian), and brought along by Roslyn. Wow! I'm hoping someone more hi tech than me will post some photos (hello Dan ) Come to think of it, everyone is more hi tech than me. Mick uses state-of-the-art stuff for his presentation, and I use the very latest Edison phonograph Thanks to Mrs Cruse for the catering (not that Mrs Cruse), and I hope everyone enjoyed the event as much as I did. Thank you everyone, for a fabulous day... and a special thank you to Shawn (Xtreme) Ness, who send a package for everyone present. Thanks Shawn, this was much appreciated. Riley |

Thanks Riley and everyone else for making my day so memorable! This was my first UKEA meeting and I'll be first there next year!
Glad you all liked my surprise video messages and my greatful thanks to The Cannons, Ian McColl, Pastor Clyde and Steve Baker for taking the time to produce such wonderful mini movies. Also, if I promised to get in touch with the rest of the members, and forgot to leave my contact details, please PM me and I'll make sure I get in touch with you. Finally, my avatar has changed (if I have managed to do it correctly) I wasn't aware that my nose and mouth had to be in the picture. You'll have to make do with this formal tuxedo shot until I can think of something a bit more appropriate. Mick |

Mick
After giving some thought to the start of the event, I think maybe you didn't pick the lock and admit yourself to the premises, but actually de-materialised yourself under the door . . . Regards Sir Arthur Conan Riley |

I can only echo the thoughts and words above.
Mick you did a great job with the lecture, Riley,,,thanks for everything, superb presentation,,,I was really gob smacked upon finding out that you had been up preparing the food since 3am that morning, the trifle was out of this world. Again a wonderful time in the company of a close knit bunch of lads all who have a sense of fun. What a bonus to have our friends from across the pond with us, at least in spirit. I passed on all of your good wishes to "Sh, you know who" At the Castle last night,,she was delighted and only wished she had a chance to sample Riley`s trifle!!. Kondini. |

What "you know who" at the castle actually said was "One would not wish to trifle with that Mr Kondini . ." Kondini entertains the Royal Household . .WOW! . . there's one for the brochure Thanks to everyone for making it such a great day. Riley |

Hi All in mother country England, Mick Hanzlik has been kind enough to post me a DVD of all you well wishing messages and some comments on the sad state of my messy workshop.
I would like to thank you all and I won't mention Kondini's foul vocab! (but very funny) or someone who has been stuck in a pair of handcuffs for over 12 months. I really felt like I was there, thank you all. Ian

Messy workshop ???? I thought it looked very tidy. When Marie saw the DVD she asked "Why isn't your workshop as neat and tidy as Ian's?" . . .

Hi Riley, you could tell her what I say to Lisa. "If it's tidy, that means I am spending more time cleaning than working."
Good to see you on the video, I wish it had have been longer. Ian

Thanks for the good words Ian, and sorry the video wasn't longer. The next one will be!
Now an appeal for all brits going to Mark and Sheila's Convention. Can you take your camcorders please. I'll be happy to compile as many video clips as I can and copy to DVD to show all us misfortunate types who can't afford to go. The completed thing can then be shown at the next UKEA meeting. Also Ian, take along the video we shot here in the UK so that they can see what we get up to. Hands across the water etc! Cheers all1 Mick H |
