Hi Guys & Ladies.
Thinking of putting the traditional White Rabbit into my Kiddie shows, but what is the best bred to buy? I've been told that the Netherlands dwarf rabbits can be a bit aggresive, and that a lopped eared rabbit is more tame, but they grow big, (No good for production props then!!) Surely with lots of TLC and keeping an eye on the kids a dwarf would be fine, (Rabbit that is, NOT a midget!) any suggestions would be appreciated. Being from across the pond, (Good ole UK) I am hoping to make a lot of new friends in Magic here. I hope so.

Welcome to the Café' Chubby Harris. You will surely meet a lot of great friends here as well as get great advise. IMO, Dwarf rabbit is the best size. I am lucky that I haven't got an aggressive one yet. You can try guinea pigs too. They are pretty cute. Kids love them. Bob Sanders can give you some good advise on the guinea pigs.

I've tried different rabbits and my choice is Mini Rex. The one I am using now is just over 4 pounds so he fits in things that the large rabbits don't.
They have big standing ears unlike the Netherland dwarfs. The big ears are important on stage. Your basic classic looking rabbit. He also very good with kids.

Hey,
I have used hotot rabbits exclusively for 4 years in my show (check my profile for a link to my site containing pictures of him). The really unique thing about these rabbits is they are pure white, stay a small size, black eyes, and black fur around the eyes (which is 100% natural). If you decide to go with this breed, go with a male, females tend to be more aggressive (heck whats the difference with human females? Just Kidding!!!!!)and will probably bite small children. The red eyes on albinos scare little children from past stories I have heard, so this guy pretty much looks like a toy, real cutie too! |

Dwarf Hotots are "sexy" bunnies. They look almost like the Playboy bunny silhouette. I've used a female Hotot and she's been real gentle.
Anyone use White Blue-Eyed Dwarf Lop Eareds? I have a couple of those, they look like twins and are sooo cute. They're sooo cuddly, with droopy ears. Best part, they are the gentlest of bunny breeds. Plus, they have a funny personality too. |

I am really interested in everyone's input. I was looking for a bunny and just recently contact a breeder in my area. I'm not sure if we will use a bunny in our show or not, but want one for personal reasons, but want to keep my options open for the future should I decide to use it.
My hubby is leaning towards a mini-rex, and I do love their fur! However, they have the most adorable dark-eyed white Holland lop. The breeder says she is an absolute sweetheart! I am concerned about temperament since this will mainly be our "pet" and I have a 12 year old daughter. Should I go for the lop ear? She is under 3 lbs. very tiny...so adorable! My husband is afraid should we choose to use a rabbit that kids will want a more "traditional" bunny with long ears. What do you guys think? I think the kids will like ANY bunny, big ears or not.... Thanks for the help! |

Funny this comes up...
I'm building a hutch tomorrow for a pair of rabbits I'm buying...I'm not sure of the breed (They are rescued bunnies that the theme park I work at takes in for the petting zoo)....One is white the other is black...and, other than color, they are identical in size and features (Color change possibilities!!).... Hey Even, GREAT looking site! I'm very impressed with your publicity shots...Looks like you have a great show working! Congrats! Prof. Piper :juggle:
