Is the Cinderella Act video by Docc Hilford any different to the "The New Cinderella Act" booklet ?

Yes. There is some updated handling and tips, but the routine is essentially the same.

While I thought the Cinderella Act was interesting, I did not ever plan to actually use it. Are any of you actually using it?

I have used it... it's o.k. I wouldn't call it BREAK THROUGH MENTALISM by any means... it's a Q&A act, there are others out there that, in my experience, are much superior (starting with Bob Cassidy's Jazz Q&A).
The premise to Cinderella is cute, kindof commercial, et al. However, I've found that trying to do solid Mentalism for people in this age group can be little other than a major headache. My experiences in this arena are why I have a rule of thumb in place, that bans me from doing shows for anyone under 21 unless I know them, their friends and their maturity level when it comes to this kind of thing... even then, I rarely work for such groups. Now,if you want to be "in vogue" with the current bend of public/consumer interests and cater to the younger crowd, you might consider modifying Docc's approach (which is nearly 30 years old now) to either a Teen Witch or Harry Potter & Hogwarts type interactive demonstration. The theme is more commercial and it allows you a bit of a wider birth when it comes to creativity and the kind of effects you could include. As far as the Teen Witch theme is concerned, check with your major Wiccan Publishing companies... I believe it was (and I'll spell this wrong) Llewyllnn's Publishing that had a complete Teen Witch series on the market a few years back that may be worth looking into. Best of luck! |

Perhaps Osiris has missed the point of The Cinderella Act. He states he's used it but later says he doesn't perform for those under 21! The point is it's a Q&A for Sweet Sixteen parties. Although clever reading, "Jazz" Q&A doesn't work in a 2 hour setting where guests walk around and talk during your act. Teenage girls are much more sofisticated than Harry Potter or Teen Witch themes. They would laugh you off the stage. If one reads the book, one sees why the method given is prefered.
My books are unlike many on the market because I have used them successfully for years. I share every detail of performance, patter and marketing in my books. The routines make money. Those who want to debate whether ot not they work can continue using their time reading and not performing. SMIB |

Welcome aboard Mr. Hilford. I also own your booklet of The Cinderella Act. haven't used it yet but will in future. As you mentioned I can imagine that it works very well on such teen parties.
I also appreciate most of you work. Especially in your booklets $1000 Seance and Mephisto's Journey I found some very needful tips on handling and the mephisto routine really killed everytime I performed it. But of course it must be presented in the right with the right mood set up. Greetings Thomas |

Hey Docc I am very impressed with your nightmare coin routine in fact I made my own gaff to perform it using a Victorian bun penny, I also shuttle pass it for an ungaffed 1888 penny if it gets chosen. Everybody wants to see such an old coin and pointing out the date is the actual date of the ripper murders is great cover for the shuttle pass.
You can see the gaff on my web site just click on the nightmare coin link http://www.bloodyjack.com

So I may be a bit "ignorant" on the overall concept. On the other hand, I have a serious problem with performing for teenagers... especially gitty little girls turning 16, et al. My suggestions on the HP or TW themes stems from my own experience in this arena and, when presented appropriately, they actually work with kids in the 16+ age group. Then again, I've done Seances for kids in this age group and they ate it up. Nonetheless, I loathe performing for persons who require me to explain things to them, who can't focus for more than 30 seconds, etc. As a mutual friend of ours would put it... "I'm not a warm-up act for cake & icecream" I'll just leave it at that... |
