I am trying to learn this from Marlo's seconds centers bottoms book. Does the second finger buckle the bottom card with the tip of the finger (pad) or at the knuckle? Also for the strike method Marlo says that the left hand fingers should bend at the first knuckle is that nearest the finger tip or the palm?

I will check but tip of the finger (pad) sounds right. "or at the knuckle?" I can not understand what you mean by that! "left hand fingers should bend at the first knuckle is that nearest the finger tip or the palm?" : Nearest the finger tip, I think. I have RCT what page/pages is it your refering to? Tommy

The farther back from the tip you can get and still reliably break the card (buckle) the better (I assume this is what you mean by using the knuckle). Regards, Thomas Wayne

The idea that Ed had was to use all the fingers as a unit to move (or loosen) the card and have it available for the 'take'. This prevents any bending of the hand or fingers which causes the old 'knuckle flash' problem.

Richard Turner on The Cheat DVD gives a good under the glass table view of this or at least a simular deal.

Jimmy Cards Molinari is right about this. But I would like to add be mindful of the way the three fingers give pressure on the bottom card to loosen it. If the fingers show pressure as they loosen the bottom card - that could develop into a tell that is as bad as the knuckle flash.
Light pressure by tips of the three fingers moving at the same time can loosen the card. Then it is the timing and the take must be considered for the dealing of the bottom card. Also in bottom dealing for magic I have found it is a move done once. Unlike the strike second where it can look good to do a continuous deal such as in a stop trick or a spelling effect. I hope this helps.
