Hi Folks...
Okay...so it's taken me a bit longer to get back about both books than I thought. I've really been enjoying both Mendacity and Consecution and I've been taking my time absorbing them. That's always a good sign for me. Do you know what I mean? (Some issues of MAGIC for example I fly through in minutes - others I savor for the month. Good stuff is like that). George has a wonderful writing style that exceeds so much of the self published "booklets" all of us have struggled with for so many years in magic. We're very fortunate that George and Darren Brown, Max Maven and Barrie Richardson and others have the ability to write well in addtion to sharing great material. (There are others who sadly fail in this regard, despite their popularity). We're also fortunate that the printing quality available today is so good. These two small books are beautifully produced. (I'm delighted that George has tapped into the resourceful LULU to "get 'er done" as I too stumbled upon.) Now about that price George... ;>) There are some very clever ideas in the book and I agree with others that there are a couple which really stand out. NAUGHTY-BITS is delightfully mad and I will probably never perform it as is. (My gawd...look how much **** I've gotten over my KNICKERBOCKER effect!!!) But you can bet that my creative little mind is playing with it and tweeking it to fit my own performing persona. There's much more and I highly recommend you explore George's thinking for yourself. (By the way George, I love the personal anecdotes about your experiences and influences. I discovered in writing MESSING WITH MINDS that other people enjoy this too. MORE PLEASE!) Stay wonderful, James

James,
Thanks! I suspected that "Naughty-Bits" would raise some eyebrows! It is my favorite effect in my show. Yes, the ending won't be for everyone but the method has many many applications and the idea of an object that seems to outrageous to actually exist is what I think will appeal most to those who read this effect. I'm very pleased with the final results of these two publications. And thank you for such a positive response on both books! -George Tait |

In terms of effect there are two decks in play. One boxed deck, which remains in full view, plays as the prediction, and the other simply is used to explain the premise and set the effect up to look more impossible for the audience. The performer never touches the boxed deck himself. He allows another spectator to remove the cards from the box and count them. I've received quite a bit of positive feed back about Auspicious Coincidence. I'm confident that this version is, perhaps, the most clean and direct any card @ any number effects out there that doesn't require a memorized deck, a secret cut or pass, or any type of force. Also there is no "heat" on when the "move" occurs - not that there really is a big move to begin with. As with everything found in the two publications, this is a bold and fool proof method. If anyone else has any other questions - please don't be afraid to ask! -George Tait |

I was wondering if those who have purchased Mendacity would be interested in an alternate handling of Auspicious Coincidence. I use a slightly different handling when performing this effect walk around which allows it to play in all situations - and it resets immediately. If there is interest, I will post the alternate handling up on my website. Please do let me know.
Kindest Regards, -George Tait |

George,
Can Auspicious Coincidence be set-up to play like the DUO-TECH routine? NM

I wanted to bump this thread to add my praise for these books, which I finally got around to ordering. Both are full of first-rate material in terms of the effects (which are uniformly appealing), methods (which are devious and frequently multi-layered), and presentations (which are great as-is if they fit your style, and if not, are easily adaptable).
I've never done an ACAAN routine because the concept simply didn't excite me, but Auspicious Coincidence has changed that. Patrick's take on the effect is not only exceptionally clean and technically easy, but in reading it I found a presentational angle that appeals to me. I'll definitely be using this one. In contrast, I have no place to use a routine like Naughty Bits -- but it's nonetheless my favorite effect out of the two books. The combination of methodologies is elegant and well thought-out, and I'm looking forward to adapting the idea to something I can put to use (until I get a suitable opportunity to perform the routine as-is ). Patrick's methods can be bold and sometimes risky, but they're always practically structured so that any "failures" aren't perceived as such. This makes it easy to muster the confidence necessary to pull them off successfully. Add my recommendation to those above.
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.

Just ordered "Mendacity". Anyone here have (or perform) Mr. Tate's "Chair Prediction"? How does it compare with others? (Kurtz, Richardson, Spellman)

Quinn,
I'm pleased that you've enjoyed my two books! The concept behind Naughty-Bits is of course adaptable to reveal anything you wish as well as some other sneaky effects that are quite interesting. All of the routines in each book are easily adaptable to fit a performer. I suggest highly that anyone performing any of these effects adapt them to fit their style. Mr Fisher, The chair prediction, Ensconced Fundament, is a very strong piece of my current repertoire. There are now several performers who do have this and are using it to great success in their professional performances. I also have received much feedback as to how much these folks are enjoying using it. However these people don’t want to come forward to praise it publicly because they want it for themselves, I respect that. This is item I don’t advertise outwardly because there are an abundance of chair predictions out there. I’m not saying this to hype the chair effect. I priced it high to keep it out of the curious. This is a very straight forward method that I can confidently say is very adaptable and commercial. There is nothing deceptive about the description. It plays exactly as written. There is no messing about with extra envelopes or switching/secret writing etc. I’d be happy to answer any questions or concerns over email or PM. Kindest Regards, Patrick G. Redford |
