Michael - I think that's right: using the cheap cups ("when I was a kid I had a magic set" etc) gives him an interesting narrative, which most C&B routines seem to lack. The drawback is that using them as final loads means that some of the element of surprise is gone, in that the audience knows these props, and they are not so inherently comical as, say, lemons or potatoes.

I'm not sure the ending is diminished. Tommy Wonder's Cups and Balls routine would seem to add validity to the concept. All final loads have been seen and are supposedly in plain sight throughout.

Magicmaven, is right.
As soon as I saw the Elevator Move on a Garcia tape I added it to the 2 or third phase of the penetration moves. After the first or second penetration, I say, “a lot of people think the ball is somehow, still under this cup. As you do this move, it will never look as good to you as it does to an audience. I have never been burned. It is amazing how slowly you can do this move without a hint of what is happening. Do not do this move with your silver cups. Bob |
