A racino is coming to our town soon. This is basically the existing small harness race track with the addition of slot machines (i.e. "racing casino"). I'm wondering if anyone has experience/advice to offer regarding getting a strolling job at such a place...do regular casinos employ strolling magicians or are they seen as purely a distraction from the slots (as opposed to entertainment to enhance the overall experience)? How would such a job differ from a standard party/banquet performance?
Thanks. |

When I lived in NY they opened a Racino it was the Monticello Race Track and Mgaming Co. I went there a few times to hang out gamble and have a few drinks and they had a nice lounge with a stage, lighting and music my first attempt was calling them talking to the manager and tried to set something up he said sorry sir I just don't think Magic will work here. I gave up. Three days later I went there and asked to see the director of operations it was a woman and not the man that had answered the phone. I was confused I talked to her in the lounge because I told her you need to see my vision. Anyways we both decided that with my style it would be best if I walked around performing instead of doing a stage show. We both agreed that a stage show would cause too much attention and draw people away from gambling. So for 3 months I did that 3 times a week until I moved to North Carolina.
