Hi guys:
I have some questions on this DVD. Hope you guys could clarify: a) AMBITIOUS FOUR PHASE - for this routine, where the signed card appears in the mouth, do you need to use a gimmick to accompish that? - for the effect where it changes to a block of plastic, if I only wear T-Shirt and a pair of pants/slacks, will I be able to achieve it? b) THINK OF A CARD - does it require gimmick? Will I be able to perform this effect if I only wear T-Shirt and a pair of pants/slacks? c) BILL IN KIWI - does it require gimmick? Will I be able to perform this effect if I only wear T-Shirt and a pair of pants/slacks? d) BOOMERANG CARD - can someone give me the description of this effect? e) STORM FORCE 7 - does it require gimmick? Will I be able to perform this effect if I only wear T-Shirt and a pair of pants/slacks? Please let me know if the answer of my questions would constitute exposure Thanks |

Here is my attempt to answer some of your questions:
a) The Ambitious Four Phrase. In Martin's ACR, you need a gimmick to finish off this as the killer finish is that Martin transforms the deck into a clear block of plastic on the specs hand. This special deck is called an omnideck which you can buy on L&L Publishing. You also need to buy a Jerry O'Connell's Plua Wallet (there are many review on his wallets, just do a search) for this effect. b) Think Of A Card. No gimmick in this one. But wearing a shirt with a pocket would help the effect. c) The Ambitious Four Phrase. The BIK routine does not use a gimmick. However, you'd need to wear a jacket in order to carry some of the items that Martin uses in this dvd. d) Boomerang Card. You need to know how to do a cull, Vernon's titlt move, farrow shuffle, double fan of a deck. Bascially an indifferent card boomerang onto the double fan, and you cull the selected card next to the indifferent card. Sorry this is not a very good explaination as this effect is not something I prefer to do. The card really does not boomerang out like the Meir Yedid's Boomerang Card. e) Storm Force 7. Martin has the spec freely think of a card then he writes the prediction on the back of a card on the deck. Then the spec revealed the card and it matches what Martin wrote down before the spec. revealed it. He uses a throughly shuffle deck and uses a one ahead prinicple and a cull. Another thing he uses for this effect is a dry out Sharpie pen. No, you don't need to wear a jacket. I hope this helps. Zhuanan, I just read on the UK Magic Week that Martin Sanderson's released The Storm Force 7 as a stand alone effect. The DVD is very well done. Well chosesn, standard magic effects done by a professional who obviously has done these routines 100s if not 1000s of times. Nothing earth-shattering in terms of new plots and effects, but there are many things that you can learn and add to your own routines by watching a professional work.
He did have a routine with a name badge on the tape that looked interesting, but unfortunately he didn't release it on this tape so it's off limits in my book.

The Routine with the Name badge, was not explained because it is not his.
This is an effect by Richard Sanders and can be found in his Book "Close-up Assasin. If you are really interested in it, I suggest picking it up. It is only $30 or so and includes a Video, with the presentations off all the effects. By the Way, I noticed on this Corporate Close-up DVD that the Bill in Kiwi Looked a lot like Richard Sanders "Lime" effect from his Close-up assasin book. Even the line about anyone from NEW YORK when he was looking for the Knife. Anyone know about this?

Since my last post in May, I've heard that the Chop Cup routine (on the spectator's hand) is virtually the same as a routine by Pat Page. Anyone have any more information about this?

It's a pretty basic Chop Cup routine. The main thing is that it's done in someone else's hand, not really the person you're talking too.
Yes, that is my real name. Yes, I am a real person. No, you probably won't agree with me.

Me too
I think it's not in Close-up assasin neither sanders's effect.

It's "Trick Photography II" on p. 16 of Richard Sanders "Closeup Assassin."

Oh, and the bill in lime routine is "Sour Dough" on p. 72 of the same book. Good routine! The book is worth tracking down, there's other good stuff in it too.
By the way, I remember Martin Sanderson crediting Richard Sanders with these routines on the DVD, but it's been awhile since I saw it, so I don't remember the details. |

I felt like too much of the DVDs spent time marketing how "great" Martin was and how "great" the DVD was. I felt it was a bit weak and over-hyped.
Especially the chop cup routine which isn't really a chop cup routine at all but a simple one cup routine with little thought put into it.

Especially the chop cup routine which isn't really a chop cup routine at all but a simple one cup routine with little thought put into it. sorry...???? but it uses a chop cup, balls, and final load / loads I cant see how you couldn't open at any table with this great effect I used this as my opener for my magic circle audition, very sucessfully as for the other contents on the dvd.... martin has a great simple routine for the coin unique gimmick take time to make up a storm force 7 deck ( found in the bonus section I believe), the applictaions with this are endless!also martin has a great ambitous card routine, ok nothing really new here, but nicely routined, and not too long and I just wonder how much this dvd has lead to the increase of sales and use of the omni deck most of the routines finishing in an omni deck that have been released on dvds over the last couple of years I would imagine to be heavily influences from martins handling I think its a great dvd, and if you already have it, there a vol 2 available also! enjoy matt wainwright http://www.mattwainwright.com |

I also own volume one, which I enjoyed it pretty much. But I heard vol 2 is not as great as vol 1, is that true?

On 2009-12-15 20:20, Jeff Haas wrote: Ohh Ok. I was a little confused because of the "name badge" thing. Richard uses the "ID Badge". I actually think the name badge is much better of an idea. On a side note, I actually received this DVD for X-Mas. I really think it's a great DVD. In a market flooded with one trick dvd's, and 12 year old "youtuber's" putting out a majority of products, it is really nice to see a dvd with an actual magician in it. With actual real world material. From beginning to end, I think the effects are great, and I think his advice is great. As mentioned previously, there is no earth shattering material here, as far as new mechanics, or plot. But the routines are fabulous, and direct, and practical. Before I get flamed.. Yes I believe that it is practical to carry 10 kiwi's in your close-up case and grab one when needed to perform the Bill to Kiwi effect. I really, really like what the UK is doing with magic. Every last DVD I have purchased from a UK performer has been top notch production, and top notch material. This DVD is absolutely no exception. IMHO, this is a great buy, and well worth the money. I will be using the ACR, the Coin under watch, adding some new phases to my chop cup routine, Storm Force 7, & his handling of the Bill to Kiwi. 5 effects outta one DVD... That's a great value for me. But that's just my opinion.. Best, Aaron |

I remember a trick being marketed several years ago that was a name badge change much like what Sanderson did on this DVD. I don't remember the name of the trick, but this might be it
