Hi
Recently, when doing a couple of shows I'm noticing an increasing rise in the number of young children coming as parts of groups despite my show being more adult friendly they seem to enjoy it. However when I'm using volounteers I am forced to use adults due to the tasks they are carrying out may be risky with a young child(too many times does a child forget what he was thinking of) So I was wondering if you could recommend some good stage tricks that are good to use with a child volounteer with out insulting an adult audiences intelligence. Two chair suspensions, either the standand one or the one Rick Thomas uses. With the right routine, you can get a lot of mileage out of both of them. Of course there are many more that will probably be suggested which have equal value. You should end up with a large selection.

Confusing crayons (tricky bottles with crayons) can be funny and simple to use. Adults would get a laugh watching it.

Nick,
I have learned to apply the reverse logic. Play to the children (regardless of age)! (Many are over thirty!) The adults then have license to enjoy themselves. And, they do! After forty-seven years in the professional entertainment industry, my advice is that playing to the youngsters is playing to the whole audience. Over the years my act has become more visual and less intellectual. I do more silks, ropes, newspapers and doves than before. I reserve doing mental magic essentially for aspiring young magicians who aren't ready to admit yet what our job really is. I learned the same in the recording industry too. The last thing I needed was someone who was a virtuoso in music. I could hire those for nearly nothing but didn't need them. I needed entertainers. Entertainers attract and hold audiences. Loosen up and let everyone enjoy it more. They'll pay you for it! Good Luck! Bob Magic By Sander |
