I've had an opportunity to spend time with Billion Dollar Bunko since my initial post. And, reluctantly, I have to change my opinion because it is better than I thought at the time. The more I go through it, the more I am delighted and impressed.
Yes, it does show you how to do dice switches, second deals, etc. But this is not Card College. It was never meant to be. As Simon has said himself, you can find the slights and moves written up any number of places. Billion Dollar Bunko is that rare title that goes where magic books don't (and in so many cases "can't"), into the world of the cheat where shade is taken far more seriously than any magician takes misdirection. Move mavins will be disappointed. But that's okay. The book wasn't written for them. The real value is that it talks about the real work. I grew up on horse tracks and carnival midways. It brought back memories and I chortled all the way through it. My recommendation, buy it! If you don't like it, put it on your bookshelf and come back to it in a year. You may find your taste has changed. If it hasn't, sell it for more than you paid for it. I guarantee you still won't be getting what its truely worth, and whoever buys it will.

I have really enjoyed reading this book. I see myself in my foolish youth playing some of the games. It is a lot of fun to now read the reason I never won. A very enjoyable read.

If you're in the NYC area on June 9th, Simon will be signing his book at Tannen's.
He'll also be lecturing in New Jersey the night before. http://www.magical-weddings.com/roundtable/calendar.htm |

I just spent a few hours reading through Billion Dollar Bunko. The chapter on Spoof is worth the price of the book. Great book.

It's been some time since I've been on the board here so apolize for the delay in thanking Todd and everybody else here for their very kind comments about the new book. It's taken a loooooooooong time to get it all together and published! The nice words make the task of taking on a project of this size all the more worthwhile!
Thanks again guys! Simon Lovell |
