I hope it stays out of print and he can keep it for himself.
But you know some guy will come along and publish his take on it. Jack H.O.A.X |

I will concur with the others and say that the 2nd special was much better than the first. The Blaine-like feel was much more diminished this time around. The effects were good and the presentations were quite creative. Alain's technique of combining more than one effect to create a miraculous synergy was quite impressive.

His "Any Card Any Number" routine is in "Mind over Matter". I use it with the memorized BCS system. He also included Any Card through the table. It is a reputation maker. If you can find a copy, GET IT! Sorry, but I will never part with mine.

For all the me too magicians out there.
Its not Alain’s but Barrie Richardson’s Theater of the mind has 3 methods for any card at a given number. One of them is fantastic and the spectator can do the counting. I recomend it you can get it direct from Steven Minch here http://www.hermeticpress.com/
"sir i sent you half the kidne i took from one woman prasarved it for you tother piece i fried and ate it was very nise i may send you the bloody knif that took it out if you only wate a whil longer"

Great recommendation! Of course, you won't have much time to absorb the material in there before Barrie Richardson's "Act Two" is released by Hermetic Press!

I beleive you are right Jack.
But when it comes down to it. Why was no one interested before they saw Mr. Nu use these things? Just a bunch "O" Monkeys. Jack H.O.A.X |

Something like: 10 03 18 13 14 17 06 07 04 09 12 19 16 15 08 05 (Leading zeros are included only to improve spacing.) Every row, column, diagonal (and "broken" row, "broken" column, broken diagonal) add to 44, the four corners add to 44, the four corners of every 3 by 3 square add to 44, the four corners of EVERY 2 by 4 rectangle add to 44, the four corners of EVERY 4 by 2 rectangle add to 44, the four corners of EVERY 2 by 2 square add to 44, and the four corners of EVERY "top hat" add to 44. (See Sam Dalal's PATTERNS OF PERFECTION for a complete listing/explantion of all 52 (!) patterns that sum to 44. Note: What I call "top hats," Dalal calls "pyramids.") When I pointed something similar out in another corner of the Café, I was told that Quote:

Second, you don't HAVE to point out ALL of the patterns if you don't want to. Third, the method (which I learned from the Dalal book) DOES produce a magic square that's AT LEAST as magical as the square Nu produced for ALL target numbers...with the added BONUS that it produces a square which sums to the target number in 52 different ways whenever the target number is even. Why settle for "sufficient"? Stan Alger One last thought: I don't understand why anyone familiar with Sam Dalal's technique would say it's "difficult to construct such squares on the fly." Perhaps the Dalal book slipped under the radar. Perhaps the original price of the manuscript was the cause of this. I know I hesitated before buying my copy, wondering "how good could this be if the asking price is $4.00?" That's not a typo; $4.00 was the original price. Don't know if Dalal still has copies for sale, but I know some dealers are selling copies for many times the original price. Stan Alger |
