Yesterday I received a proof of the long awaited book "Switch" and it is INCREDIBLE and worth the wait.
A few years back I had the idea of putting together a small collection of the best bill switches. I spoke to John Lovick about doing the writing as John is one of the finest technical writers I know in magic. Needless to say, both John and I got hooked and the book grew and grew. John spent countless hours working on this and we brought in a great team to help: Tony Dunn did well over 800 illustrations, Andrew Pinard did an amazing job on the layout and consulting, and we had some of the top names in magic helping us to track every bill switch we could find. The book grew from what was to be a small paperback with 5 contributors to the end for all on the bill switch with over 350 pages and over 80 illustrations. We went through it and cut and cut until we only had what we felt was "A" items. As Andrew Pinard put it "If you do the bill switch you will want this book, if you don't do the switch but have considered it you will want this, if you do close up OR stand up work you will find this a must have." More than 70 magicians from 11 countries on 4 continents contributed, including: David Acer Jon Allen Michael Ammar Danny Archer Gaëtan Bloom Rod Chow Marc DeSouza Doc Dixon Daniel Garcia Dan Garrett Paul Gertner Bill Goldman Dave Gripenwaldt David Harkey Richard Hatch Kevin King Roger Klause Mike Kozlowski Nathan Kranzo Gary Kurtz John Lovick Bill Malone Jay Marshall Max Maven Steve Mayhew Mark Mitton Robert E. Neale David Oliver Andrew J. Pinard Jason Randal Marvyn Roy David Regal Richard Sanders Jim Sisti Jay Sankey Jamy Ian Swiss Vladimir Vladimirov Michael Weber Gregory Wilson Scotty York The book will include many new handlings, discussions, routines, etc. Included will be new handlings by Ammar, the most comprehensive and updated handling of the Klause Bill Switch, etc. In addition, we were able to track down the guy who started it all Vladimir Vladimirov. Vladimir is the originator who influenced all of the earliest handlings. No one knew where he was for 20 years but we found him, John interviewed him, and we include his handling. This was an extremely important historical part of the whole bill switch! Finally the originator to this classici piece of magic has been found and given his proper place in magic history. Lastly, John Lovick has really set a new bar as far as writing a magic book. As mentioned above, John is one of the finest technical writers in magic. But John didn't just stop at writing this book. John took ownership of this book and it's become his baby and he subsequently has given it hundreds and hundreds of hours of work. This translates to an instant bargain for all those who buy it. John has baby-sat every step of the book. Because of John's time and devotion this has become a work that will be a standard reference for many many years to come. It will most likely be August or September as there is one more proof going on by Jason England, John, and a couple of other individuals, any final corrections made, and then it is about 6 weeks at the printer. Knowing Handsome Jack as I do, I'm sure this will be a wonderful book! He's very bright, very knowledgeable and, as Tim says, an excellent writer. Tomy Dunn's name means the best in clear, quality illustrations, and Andrew and Tim are both names I trust for quality. This is one item I'll buy without hesitation, sight unseen. Put me on the list for a copy hot off the presses!

I love the Bill Switch and do it regularly here in Japan using 1000 and 5000 yen notes. I've had to adapt my handling because the denominations used to be different colors and slightly different sizes. Now that there is a brand new generation of Japanese currency I have again slightly altered my presentation.
I am really looking forward to this book. |

I've been excited about this one ever since reading lovick's "what's the rumpus" lecture notes. his writing is really good and his drawings are excellent. I will be buying one as well.

I also think this is a great book and know it has been in the works for quite awhile. My only question and it is only curiosity more than anything else, but with all the contributors listed above and the amount of information that this book will contain, what is the estimated price tag for the book?
Like I said, it is only curiosity as I will save for it but thought I would ask you here. Thanks |
