Flipper coin is a very nice gaff which makes some routines like coin through table very visual, spectator sees 2 coins suddenly change to 1 coin. However, though it just takes less then 1 second, using a "common" flipper coin requires one to do some "awkard" motion, so you may ned to think up a way to do it in a less noticibly way. I heard Schoolcraft Flipper eliminates that need, but I can't tell you more since I don't have one myself.
If you want to buy a Hopping Half set, make sure the [ coming along with it is an expanded one or not. For a mass-produced Hopping Half set, it may not be an expanded one so you can only use that [ along with the set.
It only takes a minute to learn how it is done, but takes a lifetime to learn how to do it.

I have a Morgan "Schoolcraft" Flipper, so I will respond to the uncertainty about its operation. Yes, it does totally eliminate the need for the "awkward motion" mentioned above. It does what you need it to do effortlessly, without any unnatural or suspicious movements. I know this from much successful experience using it. As I said, it's well worth the money!

Man... I guess it's time for me to save up money for the Schoolcraft Flipper...
I have a half dollar flipper by SaXXX and I'm enough with it... I always want to try the Troy Hooser's routines with flippers.

I'm not efficient with coins, but when I do a coin trick or two during my cards, I always include Scoth and Soda, and The Hopping Halves. I'm here to tell you spec. love'em and it's very easy for me to do. I have the Sterling sets. But if I'm ever going to upgrade, I know where to go after reading the postings (The Café members know their coins!). Cheers!

I had a friend who showed me a coin routine using 4 chinese coins and a shell. After he performed (it was good), I asked if I could borrow the coins but I said, not the shell. I did a 4 coins across routine without the shell, and he became confused and amazed because I did the same "effect" (coins moving from one place to another) with his coins and no shell.
Maybe no gaff would be my recommendation. Although, I do love my magnetic S&S. |

Still_ill,
It seems that the Butter Coin is always getting very mixed reviews. What don't you like about it? |

I don't think there's any question that a shell has the most versatility.

Pound for pound, I think the Butter Coin by Alex Lourido is still the best. I perform his "signed coin through glass table" and it always shocks and amazes everyone who sees it, including magicians. One minute there are three coins above the table (one of which is signed by a spectator using a sharpie) and you drop all three onto the table top. Amazingly, two coins stay above the table and the signed coin is seen to penetrate the glass and land in your opposite hand that is under the table! It looks incredible.
A magician isn't defined by how many tricks he knows, but how well he has mastered them!

What makes a "butter coin" more versitile than a folder or flipper?

I suppose “most versatile” can be quantified can’t it?
Extra coin: Allows you to be “one ahead”, making it possible for a coin to be in two places at once. Shell: Allows you to be one ahead Vanishes / hides the “extra” coin Can be used to be one behind as well (three coins and a shell as four coins) Allows for a unique penetration of a bill or handkerchief (ala the Ball and Shell) Copper/Silver: Allows you to be one ahead with either of two coins Vanishes / hides the “extra” coin (but not as cleanly as a shell) Makes certain moves more deceptive (HPC for example) because the double show shows a “different coin”. Folder: Can be used as an extra coin to be one ahead False display possible that shows two (or more) coins as three (or more) Visual vanish possible (three coins become two) Can be concealed in a false thumb or finger Can be passed through small openings (rings, bottle necks, etc.) Flipper: Can be used as an extra coin to be one ahead False display possible that shows one coin as two coins (as well as two as three, etc.) Unique (two coins become one) visual vanish possible., as well as three become two, etc. Double Coin / “Siamese” Coin Can be used to be one or two ahead Can be used to be one or two behind Can vanish two coins silently (like a coin clip) I’d agree that the C/S coin and the Shell are the most useful. Combine the two in one effect and you will amaze even the wise ones. Ask Roger Klause. |
