Under what stage name did William Henry Coffrin perform?
What is the name of the only routine performed by David Copperfield on one of his TV specials, about which he later said he regretted performing? Which well known magician was the first person to fly across Australia? On the Howard Thurston poster entitled, "She Floats", there is a woman who is shown floating. What was the name of this woman's famous daughter? Which well known magician originally billed himself as "Davino, the boy magician"? When a woman named Mary Toft perpetuated a hoax, which magic trick did she inspire? What do John Calvert, Von Arx and Howard Thurston have in common? I've PMed you the answers. |

I only know one answer. How embarrasing...
I am away and will be so until late July. I will have a chance to read the forums, but I will be pressed for time, and unable to read every thread. If you feel a thread requires my attention, please PM me with a link. Thanks, and have a great summer. :

Man oh man! I thought I knew my magic history but I only knew four of the seven questions. Actually I only know three for sure and one is a big maybe.
1. I know what William Henry Coffrin’s stage name was. (Hint: Played a rube and invented a stack!). 2. I haven’t a clue about David Copperfield and his TV shows. I’ve seen him live a few times and that’s about it 3. The third question was the easiest of the bunch. In fact it is a debatable fact. Hint: the magician in question was perhaps the very best exploiter of publicity, and could escape from anything. 4. I should know the Howard Thurston question but rack my brain, as I will I just cannot recall the name! 5. I thought I knew who the boy magician was but I have to take a pass on it! 6. I think I know Mary Toff’s hoax and the trick that it spanned. The trick is probably the one most associated with magicians but least performed. This one is my maybe answer. 7. Finally all three had the same dealing with the sea! I’m just not as smart as I believed! But you guys knew that already didn’t you? I guess that I would not gain access to andy's forum!

I think the effect DC regretted performing was the Statue of Liberty Vanish. Alhtough I was quite young when I saw it on TV I do recall some reactions of people across the nation stating that although the illusion was breath-taking they also felt at the same time their "freedom" had vanished as that is what the Lady is so well acquaintanced with and that upset DC that caused people to feel that way. Sorry for the lengthy explanation of why I chose that illusion as the answer.
I think the boy who billed himself as "Davino" boy magician was David Seth Kotkin aka David Copperfield.

Well there's only two I could answer and one I probably could guess. Great quiz.
You are going to send us the answers, aren't you Scott. Scott???
May your fingers never lose their deftness,
May your tongue always lead them down the garden path... Regards, Whiterabbit |

(Slaps his self on the forehead!) Of course I knew the kid’s name! Duh! Do I feel stupid? That means that I know four of the answers for sure and one maybe. Still not too bright!

Well...he didn't actually fly ACROSS Australia (it's a big continent), and there is evidence that someone else flew before he did, but that he flew a bit longer and was able to use publicity to 'plow the other man's flight under.'
