My mum will be 80 later this year. She is a great supporter of my son's magic interests. She has asked him to perform at her celebration party, which will only be around 70 people. She then mentioned that since being little she had always wanted to be the person who assists the magician by being levitated.
Got me thinking.... wouldn't it be great if we could arrange it? Trouble is I know nothing about levitation other than the equipment costs a fortune! Is it safe for a very sprightley, active but elderly woman? How much would it cost to hire a magician for the evening who could do it (UK)? How could I do that without overshadowing my son's magic which is basic? Maybe it's not a goer but I'd like to explore all possibilities. Any advice welcomed |

You're correct in that levitations are expensive, the 3-in-1 being the cheapest of them all but still runs over $1,000 dollars.
They are all safe, yet care in handling is important. Suspensions may be less expensive, and for the most part, would serve the purpose. The suspension would have to be custom built to handle a person over 100 lbs safely. The Simplex Levitation plans for $21 on the Magic Auction would do the trick, but to save money, instead of the electric riser, use a stury designed bar. (Requires knowledge of metals, consult a machinist) This probably could be built for less than $250, about the mininal cost to hire a magician who owns such an illusion. If built, then your son could "suspend" his grandmother.
