I realize this just showed up on the Hocus-Pocus site, but does anyone have any info/reviews on this? How does this compare to Rick Haslett's 'The Flash'? Is this electronic? How big is the unit? Are you out there Jim? Thanks -

THIS IS GREAT!!!!!
This is the best fire unit I've used by far for igniting paper and cotton and string. It's silent, there is no visible movement, it can stay loaded until your ready to use, no sleeves and your hands are actually empty! I'm very very happy with my unit! |

Hmm no sleeves required?

Nope!!!!
It is however, vaguely similer to Jim Pace's Inviso Torch for vanishing-route. You can also use sleeves if you want, though I find it is more of an impedement. |

Hi Daeggs and Mystician,I see you leave the device loaded.Have you had any mishaps doing this? I thought it would be pretty risky doing this as the device is very sensitive.

I've never had it go off accidently, and it only dropped the load 1 time because of my own fault the load dropped out (it was insecurly secured) on the floor...
I usually keep it loaded for 5-20 minutes, and it always works perfect. I wouldn't say its "very sensitive", the area that it should be loaded at shouldn't be recieving any forces that would trigger the ignition... |

Thanks Daegs.I still think it's a bit risky.It only requires a bump!

Well, not really. It usually takes a second to get the wire hot enough to ignite the flash paper, but a quick bump won't set it off. I know a "second" doesn't sound like any time, but it is really, if you're talking about a bump.
You could also sew clothing hooks or small loops into your clothing to help guide the thing away from areas likely to get bumped, especially while it's idle and you're not planning on using it immediately. Overall, the only thing that bugs me, overall, about flash paper devices is the inablity to automatically reset. Ah well.

Bought this at blackpool, love it and use it in my act. but the most fun I have had is with fooling fellow magicians with 'this great new self lighting flash paper, it has a little bubble on it you squeeze and it lights itself' they have been ringing magic shops and googling it for ages. lol. cruel but funny.
p.s. the gimmick does a great version of hot leads and comes with instructions on how to do it. regards, Doc. |

I not so lucky the one I got have some problem. It cannot lock and react back. Also clip is not fasten to the reel it needs me to use the double side tape to stick on the reel . and it is not so secure in this way. Anyone have the same problem like me ? Thanks

As to the reel not locking for you, contact Jim Pace. He's the creator of it and is pretty good about responding to any issues you might have.

I just saw Jim Pace demo this in his lecture last night. It is, by far, the most impressive and most practical flash effect I have seen in my many years around magic. If I had a place for this sort of fx in my act, I would have jumped on this one. It is very good.

Someone mentioned loading the device? since this is a coil based igniter this is optional right? I don't have to load the flash paper beforehand do i? can't I have a wad of crumpled up flash paper and ignite one at a time, throwing them in the air? also why wouldn't the reset be automatic?

Anyone use this in their close up routine? I do walk around and I was wondering how easy it would be to set up on the fly for a finally at the end of some of my tricks. I was wondering how fast and undetectable I can get the thing loaded for a flash. Also, will this replace my silk for a topit production? Sounds like a great product!
