Pretty much considered bad form to ask for exact methodology of a commercially available product.
A more tactful approach, more likely to get a response (at least a positive one), might be, "Can anyone give me a review of the Elevator Levitation? Pros, cons, potential limitations? I'd really appreciate it. Thanks." Intellectual property is still property. If someone provides you the secret (complete with pics showing the gimmick) then why would you buy it? Then the creator is deprived of his income from creating that product. A general review could give you a lot of information without tipping the secret.
Was that meant to be edible?

I agree with Jim. A good review should and will give you a lot of information without giving away the exact method/secret.
But, I disagree that if you know the secret behind something, you would not buy it. If I knew the method behind an effect and its a good one, I would buy it anyway. You are performing for the audience, not only to yourself. So it doesn't make sense to not buy an effect just because you know the secret. Your presentation, patter, and general way of making the magic real is what counts. Not necessarily the method. |

Let me rephrase - if you know the secret, you are less likely to buy the original. Why? Because you can now make it yourself, or have it made, for less cost than the original because you don't have to take into account all of the research, development and marketing costs that the creator/seller must.
Make more sense?

Yes, Jim. Your rephrasing did make more sense.
But, in terms of deciding whether to buy an effect or not if you know the method, and you believe that it is a good effect, then you should buy it regardless of whether you know the method beforehand or not. But, if you are simply "using" the fact that you know the secret beforehand and then take advantage of it by creating your own or letting someone else make it for you, then that I would strongly be against. Not only is it wrong, It's stealing. |

Reviews should be posted in the Good, Bad and Garbage forum, not grand illusion. Do a search on Elevator and you'll see several lengthy reviews for both Elevator and Elevator 2.
