One of the most uncertain areas of creating magic is if it will be protected and the guidelines for protection against copying (not in published form, but the ideas), stealing and publishing oneself. It would be nice to get an unbiases pro as a guest to clear some things up as to what really are the guidelines and what is protected.
Just a thought for a guest who may get a lot of attention. Great place you have here! Thx. Mike |

Sounds like a good idea. So many things in the magic world are copyrighted, and it can get down right confusing.

Actually, the idea is a good one and I will look into this possibility.
However, finding a qualified attorney who is willing to give away FREE legal advice may be more difficult then it sounds. But, I'll give it a shot. Btw, any members here who specialize in copyright and trademark law? If so and you're interested, please private message me. Thank you.

Some time ago, I wrote a somewhat detailed summary of copyright laws for a private website, but alas (and somewhat ironically) would hesitate posting the summary here due to the Café's copyright claims and policies.

Yes I would support that idea totally. I have a few questions regarding copyright which one day I intend to search the site for. But it would be great to find out from someone who really knows.

Tiggod: just remember that there is no such thing as "international copyright law" -- each country has its own copyright laws. Some countries do cooperate with each other and help enforce a foreign author's rights, but some do not.

China is officially part of one of the agreements I think but unofficially a lot of pirated goods are made there. The two main conventions are the Berne Convention and the Universal Copyright Convention. These grew out of agreements that have been in place for over a hundred years and many countries subscribe. I know that audiovisual and written media are covered as well as things like product design. But magic performance? I'm going to post the question for opinions if I can't find and existing thread. |
