Sorry for being dumb, but I have never heard of this effect. Would somebody explain it to me?

Fish,
In it's basic form a flower petal is pulled of a flower and it is rolled into a tiny ball. The ball is bounced in the air on a fan or similar platform where an egg slowly takes form. You immediately take the egg and break it open into a clear glass proving it to be real. There are variations, but that's the basic effect. And there are no dumb questions (well, there are but your's wasn't one of them).

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know if there are any videos out on the market with a step by step process on making the ‘rubber’ egg? |

I think it is MAK magic that has a latex egg on the market. I saw some the other day priced at $30 each at David Mann's shop in Gatlinburg. His website is http://www.precisionmagic.com

Anyone interested in the duck eggs skins can PM me. I have 2 I will sell from my experimenting.
Making Latex eggs has long been a very coveted secret, as the parties involved make a living from this work. So I never seen any explanition on making latex products or eggs. One possible solution is to contact the latex company you are purchasing the latex from, most manufacturers supply instructions because this will sell more of there product. Owens Magic, Martini Magic, Nino, are currently the only suppliers of latex products I know of currently. There are a number of basement manufacturers so the process is attainable some place as well as the latex. Where do you buy latex, I think, is the 1st question before learning a process. |

The version I remember as a child watching Mark Wilson on MagicLand of Alakazam was he did the traditional Egg on Fan. I even remember see his steal from the left breast pocket as he had his right side to the camera at the time.

I think the ones on Ebay are made of a slightly thicker laxtex than the Weller, and does not collapse as small. Also I find the egg does not expand as fast. For $10.00, it is not too bad, especially if you are just starting out and just need something to practice with. Of course there are many applications for this prop, and for the price, I think it was a decent investment. |

Shaner316,
I never thought of that, spend $10 for something that does not work very well or or look any good or perform the same a quality product that works great and you will find out the characteristics of the product. Then go out in front of a paying audience and perform a quality magic effect. There have been latex eggs on the market that were joke items and are not intended for magic but for gags or jokes on people. They have a large hole in one end and are very thick. I would not suggest even trying this type of product for this magic effect. |
