I have Gary Plants booklet on his handling of the Zarrow shuffle. However I would like to add a dvd teaching false shuffles. I'm deciding between Ackerman and Green. Opinions? Suggestions? Feedback? Thanks.

Lennart Green teaches his false shuffles over 2-3 videos. I think Allan Ackerman dedicates only 1 tape to false shuffles. Both are Techincally excellent card men. I believe Allan Ackerman teaches more traditional false shuffles on his tape and Lennart Green teaches things that he developed that fit his personal style of showmanship. I would start out with the Ackerman tape and even one of Daryl's card encyclopedia tapes that deals with false shuffles is also very good. BTW Ackerman's tape teaches the Zarrow Shuffle.

I have Green's DVD on false shuffles and I agree that many of the shuffles suit his style: there are no Zarrows, just lots of false shuffles (some deceptively sloppy-looking) of the overhand and riffle variety. I've learnt a couple, and have adapted them to suit my hands and performance style (whatever my performance style is!).
I have an Ackerman DVD on false dealing. It contains some good stuff, but Ackerman insists on "neck-tying" the deck when dealing seconds. I've always thought this a bit of a cop-out, as I've seen other magicians deal deceptive seconds with none of the neck-tying lark. Obviously I don't know what his shuffling DVD's like. |

Lennart Greens are great for magic, Ackermans are more card table-ish, but still great for magic, I think.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

If I practice at the kitchen table the deck is on a higher angle and the seconds appear to be more neck tying because of the way I lean my arms on the table when dealing seconds. Using a lower card table this doesn't happen. The reason I spotted this is because I had a young magician over at the house and we were doing a magic session. He asked about second dealing. Then he said - You neck tie the deck. Nope this is because the height of the table. So I stood up and angled the deck down. No neck tying. Same thing in the video and the way it was shot. Putting the moves on the video is very hard. When doing the false deals it is a good idea to practice at different tables and sit and stand when practicing. I hope this helps.

If you're looking for table riffle shuffles, lennart green has some good ones.
If you're looking for an in the hands shuffle, the heinstein shuffle is superior to anything I've seen. I recommend it highly.

I have Lennart Greens: SHUFFLING GREEN DVD, Vol 4 and its great.
If you use memo stacks or system stacks Lennart Greens False Shuffles are wonderful and very effective. His Real Green Shuffle is probably the most deceptive and "natural" false shuffle I have seen. Its also pretty easy to learn. There are many cool shuffles on his DVD, the Mirror Shuffle is also one of my favourites... If you do card magic: then this DVD are very valueable to achieve a good performance result. |

I know this isn't the asked for question, but I like Zarrow on the Zarrow shuffle. Very good description and applications. Also teaches some culls and tricks.

I don't have the Green dvds but I do have Ackerman's and I have learned a lot from it. It also has a couple of effects on it that are very nice.

Why choose? If you are serious, buy both. It wont break you and you will have two great performers in your library.

If you got enough money, please go for Past Midnight (3 DVD Set) by Benjamin Earl.
the grey shuffle is just awsome and you don't need big hands to do it well. Just my 2 cents. |
