Okay, I tried searching for this, but I got so frustrated that I just decided it would be easier to just post it myself.
anyway, I have a few very possible restautant gigs, and I was wondering what I should use to put together a small show. how long should it be? 5-10 min.? should I have more than one show put together and then stagger them from table to table? I'd really like to know if anyone has any advice on what tricks I should do. thanx in advance.

Ideally, you should have between 3-5 sets or "shows", if that's what you want to call them, with about three tricks in each. You can do two different things. you can show one set to each different table, and then the second time you come around, show another one, or you can feel out the audience and go with whichever set you feel would work best. Regarding time, I would say between 3-7 minutes, any longer is really pushing it, and you have to be able to cut the routine short if the food arrives. About the tricks, search around, there are MANY posts covering this topic and many other topics. Good look with the restaurant, as it isn't the easiest thing in the world getting a job doing it.

Thanx, guys, this stuff really helps. any of you have any suggestions on tricks I should do? I'm trying to come up with 5 sets of 3 tricks, I want ones that are very easily resettable. also, should I only do tricks while the costumers are waiting for their food, or also while their eating? I might be doing it while the customers are waiting in line to be seated, any ideas for this? thanx again for the help.

I wouldn't want to do it while they're eating ,but occasionally you will have no choice, if you must get around the tables in a certain time.
However, I must emphasise that YOU are as important as your set of tricks - sell yourself before you ask them to 'choose a card' or whatever (although wouldn't reccommend that style as an opening effect!). Remember, you are coming into their space, possibly they don't want you there initially, and they are CERTAINLY forming opinions on you. As Mr. Burger writes, the magic will start well beyond your first trick. Simon |
