Are you looking to roll the silk fabric streamers, ribbons or paper coils?

I would make a shaft that is slippery and put a split in it so you can put the end of the silk through. Use something about a pencial diameter. Now put a 3" tape reel or a peice of cardboard on each end of the pencil adjusted to the width of a streamer. (Kind of like a Rosini Silk Winder).
Have the silk fabric layed out pretty straight and not twisted. I use to run it up the hall in the house. Chuck the pencil or shaft in a variable speed drill. Feed the silk onto the shaft between your first and second fingers. You can bump the drill or run at a very slow speed. Place a rubber band around the outside of the wound bundle or use a paper strip. Remover one of the tape reels and slip the silk off. Sometimes you need to back wind it a bit to loosen it against the shaft. Now if you pull the center tail out, it will unfurl like a mylar coil. Or if you throw it and hold the end you have throw streamer. I would put a small peice of metal on the inside end to help unroll it as you through. I have wound 150' of 1" mylar coils this way for years. When I in the shop I use my lathe but it does work with a drill. You can also use a small battery powered screwdriver or little fan for the power with some modifications. Hope that helps and is clear. If not drop me a line. Richard

I had to drive away from home for 4 weeks, and I am still out, so I had no chance to try.
