What are some of the ways you guys explain spirit writing type effects if you don't take the spiritual approach? This is for a close-up effect I do and I don't think their going to believe I have spirits that write messages every other table. I have a couple ideas but don't care for them much... Any help would be much apreciated. Oh and flames come out of the paper before the writing apears, don't know of that is important. Thanks!

You could take the telekinesis approach. There are documented cases of people (like "Carrie") who unconsciously or subconsciously move things with their minds. This has nothing to do with spirits, and it would be a plausible explanation for a spirit writing type effect. I cannot really think of any other way to explain it, because if it is not a spirit, then it would have to be a product of the power of one's mind. You could take the telekinesis approach via the conscious mind as well, stating that you are, or the spectator/participant is consciously trying to produce the effect of the writing. Hope this helps.

Eugene Burger has some rather good effects in this fields. Check out "spirit theater", "magical voyages" or his dvd on spirit magic.

I guess you could kinda describe Banachek's "PK Writing" as a Spirit Writing styled effect, but with a PK approach.
Thanks! Scott B.
