This may seem like a silly question, but how does one actually practice PK touches before one actually dives in with the audience? I've seen it performed and I have the effect, but I'm a little leary of jumping into the pool without testing the water first.

As is true with any effect or routine, it can help to rehearse the entire routine as if people were there. If you have the luxury of running through it with people who are familiar with the methodology, then you can use them as your audience and participants. I rehearse a great deal just imagining that there are actual people. This can be one of the challenges of our art. At some point we have to do it with real people. My imaginary people do not always participate as I would like them to. I have them exhibit behaviors of various things that might go wrong as well, so that I'm prepared for that eventuality.
I recently used this method of rehearsal for a stage routine that involves 7 volunteers from the audience and can say that due to these type of rehearsals the first performance with real people on stage with an audience of over 500 people went very smoothly. Without those rehearsals, it probably would not have gone as smoothly. It can be a tough issue to work through. Rehearse everything so you are ready to perform without thinking about it, so that you can pay attention to the things that need your attention. In thoughts, Allen |

Where can PK Touches be obtained? I have Psychokinetic Time which is excellent. It too is difficult to practice without actually having specs in front of you.

Towledge,
You can get the effect direct from Scott Wells, who is a member of the Café here. The effect is from Banachek. Regards, Brandon Thomas |

I started learning the touch method in PK Touches by using a large pillow on a chair. Since only the shoulders need to be exposed, it makes a good practice dummy.

I agree with Allen, go thru the routine over and over again. Practice everything until it feels like second nature to you.
Imagine different reactions, develop an answer for every situation. I practice in the same way. The other thing I do is VISUALIZE the performance. I go over the entire thing in my mind over and over again, until I’m familiar with every detail. Practicing in a loud voice is vital, but visualize your routine helps a lot to get the “feeling”. Procyonrising’s pillow sounds like a great way to practice the “touch”! |

The best way of practising this routine and other similar routines is to go over the routine in your MIND over and over and over.

I had this same question when I first learned it, but I went through it all in my mind for a while then I performed it and right from the start it worked. It's not hard at all, it takes good presentation though.

By the way, if you are working on a floor that creaks or makes movement of any kind noticeable then have the person march in place... I tell them to only think of the action they are doing, but be aware of any other feelings or sensations that might happen.
For those that do it you'll know why this ploy is sometimes essential. Greg

Sometimes it can be somewhat difficult to employ the simple concept unless you've got a lot of nerve. Confidence is the key to success with this routine.

Confidence is the key to success in every mentalism routine. If a performer shows confidence he can convince the spectator of anything.
