I agree. This forum isn't about proving people wrong or right its about becoming better performers through sharing.
Get a life gibby. |

I AM lightening up. If I get any brighter you will get sunburn.
And I AM sharing.I can't help it if you don't take what is offered. Not that I care that much anyway. And I do have a life. If I didn't I would be rather dead and you wouldn't be reading this now. I am trying to get Danny to lighten up. Fretting and worrying about some silly mistake that must have happened to experienced performers on numerous occasions isn't lightening up. Instead of fretting abut this trivial matter Danny should be working on making his act a little more classy. I have seen on a previous thread his insistence on using vulgar material in a children's show. I really think this is the area he should be working on. If you want to become a "better performer" as young Nicholas has just stated then the first step is develop a certain sang-froid where audience situations are concerned. You develop a thick skin and never worry about mistakes. When you can slip up and not bat an eyelid about it you will know you are making progress. However I regret to say that worrying about a situation all day even to the extent of making a post on the internet about it does not constitute "not batting an eyelid" Small faults don't matter in the slightest. Lack of virtues does. There. Just trying to help. |

Its that lack of sensitivity that has makes your contributions rather redundant.

Hi Again,
That was a great ending to the story Danny. I think the whole point of the story was not about that if one makes a mistake they are able to carry on, despite that fact some mishap occurred. Yes, that's very important, but the story was not about that. Danny showed by ignoring his remark and carrying on business as usual without being flustered shows he was able to do that. The whole point of this story and his concern over what happened was not about HIM but that he may have unintenionally humiliated or embarressed a child. That's how I viewed this post and his reasons for posting. As magicians we can sympathize and relate as yes, we've probably all done it at one time or another. He learned from his mistake by taking out the Sir, Miss or any gender related greeting from his show to avoid that happening in the future. Learning from your mistakes..only makes one a better performer.Developing a thick skin is not the way to go in my opinion..but by always being sensitive to the audience, especially when it concerns children. I'm not in a combative mood when posting this, it's just my point of view and how I see things. We all are entitled to our opinions and that's what makes the Café an interesting place to visit. Debates and differences of opinions are welcomed..I just wanted to add how I viewed the whole situation. Chrystal |

It ill behooves young Nicholas to yap about "insensitivity" when he is one of the most brutally frank people on this forum.
If my contributions are redundant then of course our young Australian has the option not to reply to them. The very fact that he does is proof that they are not as redundant as he thinks. It is perfectly obvious to me that Chrystal is a sensitive person and no doubt has an empathy and love for children. This always seems to come through in her posts. However it can go too far. I am quite sure that the child shrugged the matter off in a matter of seconds and wasn't the slightest bit upset in the first place. Kids are tough little brats and are more resilient than many of us think. I am quite sure the child had heard this mistaken identity thing before. Besides it is a tough world out there and the kid is going to have to face bigger challenges in his life than some confused magician not knowing whether he is a boy or girl. He may as well get some rehearsal in. |

In that thread, my posts were all simply questioning your sources about Silly Billy's booking schedule. I never said one word about whether or not vulgar material was acceptable or not. Others in that thread were commenting on what is acceptable or not, but I steered clear of that issue. For your information, my show is about as clean as you can get, as I don't personally feel comfortable using vulgar humor or material in my kid's show. Now, unfortunately, I can't quote anything from that thread, because so much of it has been “cleaned up“ by the staff here. Why was it cleaned up? Because the thread was turning into an online argument and your allegations and rumors were the start of the argument. It seems that every thread you touch, Gibby, turns sour. Again, don't EVER tell me to work on the classiness of my show, when you are basing that on a completely inaccurate claim that I supported vulgar material. I see you are a New User here Gibby. I am not really into mentalism, but I am making a prediction now, that your stay here at the Café will be a short one.

That's cause I've particularly sensitive when it comes to children and animals..but those that do them harm..then I rip out their hearts and stomp on em..of course smiling sweetly in the process. >>Adjust dainty white gloves and sits back down quietly in the corner. Chrystal |

Danny, How DARE you feel better after seeing Allison again. Don't you know that having feelings for others are baaaad.
Nicholas... you have offended every child AND animal out there; for shame. Hey, at least her name wasn't Jamiroquai (or Chris, for that matter). You would have not known that you got her sex wrong with that one. Seriously, Danny; thanks for sharing that moment with us. Others may learn a valuable lesson from it, as there are many kids out there whose look can confound us when trying to guess whether they are a boy or a girl. I once worked with a family (as a therapist) that I thought had an error in their medical records until they referred to their child as their son. Said child had about 5 braids coming from all over his head. I have seen a number of boys similarly coiffured since that time. I am happy that I did not comment on my question before they introduced me to their son. JesterMan

On the bright side, a worse moment happened to me a while back (not while performing mind you...) A heavy set woman came into the company I was working at several years ago and for some reason, I felt compelled to ask her when she was due.
She just looked at me coldly and said "I'm not pregnant". OUCH.

Believe me, the so-called "giving" end of that question isn't much fun either!
(it's all good, I look like I'm about 6 months along) Time to head to the gym

You did well by not bringing attention to it. Years ago I made that mistake and since I deal with 50 to 70 children at a time, I started to specifially ask for either a boy or a girl volunteer for each trick. With todays names and how people dress, it is a real gamble guess who is who and what is what.
