Lets say you're doing a coins across and start with a friction palm and then Tenkai pinch the coin left behind (as in Mr Clean Coins Across). You can show the empty palm, quickly (angles permitting). But suppose you want to show the back of the dirty hand as well. What sequence of moves would the team recommend? Ideally it would be nice to end up with a Downs Palm because that would let you show the palm empty as well. But I can't see how you'd get out of the pinch invisibly.

That is exactly why some of use use edge grip, and sometimes avoid backpalm.

I think you might be in danger of over-proving here. They see the back of the dirty hand when you do the friction pass. Then they see the empty palm of the hand almost immediately thereafter. If you have to go further to prove that the hand is empty, you're probably already in trouble.
You really don't want the spectator to think that the "trick" has started until after the palm-up display anyways. If they're suspicious of the dirty hand, maybe you need to put less emphasis on the preliminary actions and then really focus them in when both hands are in palm-down fists.

Yes, but I saw someone do it today (although it was backpalm not tenkai) and it really fried me! I had a double take - thought he hadn't done the friction palm after all - and then a triple take when I realised he really had.

Imagine what would have happened if they did the backclip sleight and took the coins from their right hand with their left hand. What then?

OK, you've got a coin backclipped in the right, and 2/3 visible in the left. You take the right hand ones in the left. Are you suggesting you could use the move to steal the backclipped one?

Let's try this instead: you have the coins on your right hand palm up, then you show your left hand empty. Then you reach down with your left hand and take the coins ... as you draw attention to your left hand moving back to your left, you can do a Roth, Vernon, or my recovery and get set for the first coin transit. I left out a few things with those dots because this is an open forum, and you already know how to backpinch or backclip a coin.

Sorry, JT, I think I'm lost. Not because of the dots, I'm confused about what direction the coins are travelling in. Can we take it from the top?

In effect, you display the coins on your palm up right hand, and take them with your left hand, leaving your right hand still and in place. You then make a fist of your left hand, and then a fist with your right hand, and the first coin can be displayed as having travelled from left to right.
The action of the take misdirects from the hand and it's backclipped coin. The trick of this is to get a beat of misdirection before you come over and do the take so they won't notice one coin missing.

I see (I think). So sequence of events is:
display all coins openly in RH backclip one RH coin using LH's rightward motion as misdirection Take remaining visible coins with LH Recover clipped coin in RH using LH's leftward motion Make fist of both hands show first coin has "travelled" from LH to RH Interesting. Needs pretty good timing, I should think, to cover the clipping.

Yes R, or a lot of nerve if you ask a volunteer to take the coins into their hand.

Using the volunteer is a nice idea that one associates more with the final coin. It would make misdirection easier but what about subsequent coins? You couldn't do it more than once.

Yes R, the FIRST time you extract a coin from their hand, the last time you can put a coin into their hand. Nice symmetry.

JT, what do you think of Jay Sankey's Mr. Clean Coins Across??? He uses this move and others in this trick very well in my oppinion. I haven't seen many do it any better or as well as he presents it. Your thoughts?
*PS - I don't regularly if at all hear you comment much on Jay Sankey??? He might not be everyone's cup of tea with his magic and sense of humor rolled up into one, but he's darn good and sells as much magic as any of the celebrated guys here, maybe more and has contributed a good deal of refreshing and or original(?) material to the craft. Just my 2 cents.

About Jay Sankey... I met Jay twice, and attended a lecture of his around 88. Bright guy. Yes his stuff sells well. When we got to talking it was more about philosophy and marketing. It happens that his style does not suite me. I am more lean and intense where he is more jumpy and funny. Like David Regal, he does a good job in performance.
