Here are those that had the greatest impact on me. There are others, but for me they only augment those that here.
1) Phil Foxwell -- former vaudevillian living in Japan when I visited in 1977. He did almost an hour after dinner entertainment with what was lying on the dinner table or someone brought him. My introduction to real close up magic. 2) Mike Close -- My first foray in the big leagues and knuckle busting. 3) Dai Vernon -- As all roads lead to Rome, so does our close up lead back to the Professor 4) Johnny Paul -- Having as much fun as the audience. What I want in all my performances. 5) John Carney -- Direct and well thought out material. When I think of John I think of no wasted motion. 6) Slydini -- My first real thinking about what misdirection can be. 7) Max Maven -- There is gold to be mined in the Goldstein material 8) Tommy Wonder -- My first philosophy of magic. I will never use "misdirection" again

Yeah Jeff, good list. Carney really needs to be on my list as well. He's one of the best. I'll be seeing him lecture in 2 weeks. Can't wait.
Bill, here's my Bill Malone story. I said I met him for the first time in June. It was at Eric Decamps show in NYC. We had actually spoken on the phone a few times. A few years ago, he put out a notice that he was looking for new talent for his bar in Boca. I had just finished a video and decided to send it to him. Now, I know the calibre of performer that Bill hired for his place, and I don't consider myself to be there. I was basically looking for a chance to see what one of the greats would say about me. I had never even given it much though to moving to Florida. 2 weeks later, Bill calls me out of the blue. I was in the car and almost drove off a bridge. He asked me to send him some more stuff and then called me back. He said some nice things, but decided I wasn't quite there and I should keep working another year or so and get back to him. Meanwhile, he would keep me in mind if anything changed at the bar. Well, 6 months later things changed alright; the place closed. I was never so happy to not get a job. I mentioned this to him in June and he actually remembered me. |

David Williamson - It's nice to see someone harness there insanity for good and not evil.
Shigeo Futogawa - graceful genius.a very humble man Johnny Thompson - greatly under appreciates for his take on the classics- great performer - has erdanase memorized I think - most folks don't know how great is card work is - another very humble guy Alfonso - almost anonymous . Taught by vernon. Everyone in this Café has seen his work only it was done by somebody else. Fred Broder- not a magicians magician at all . not graceful and will probably never fool a magician. but he taught me about story and charecter. he mesmerizes audiences by his overall showmanship. Andy Maz- very intelligent magic yet charming Bruce Cervon - His passing is a real loss- incerdible magician! Whit Hayden - An in the trenches magician . Who else loads the envelope into a LePaul wallet right in front of the audience to repeat the trick for them in 2 minutes and kills them again - they never saw it coming- He should lead the free world- Whit Hayden for emperor! Aldo Colombini - intelligent, graceful and funny - doesn't take himself very seriously but his magic is wonderful . All these guys have influenced the magic I do . Blessings+++, Rich
God's grace rocks! It makes a good cups and balls routine look pretty boring in comparison.

The Magicians who inspired me:
During my early years in magic: Derek Dingle: A great technician and performer. Frank Garcia: He often showed up at Tannens shop, and the early years of Tannens Magic camp, still do many tricks I first learned from him. Vernon: How can anyone not be influenced by him. David Roth: Another NY fixture Bob Elliot Paul Harris John Carney Mike Rubenstein Stan (sadly I do not remeber his last name): a local Long Island performer who spent saturdays at the local magic shop(tricky Business) and taught me many sleights Sam Schwartz And More recently: Jason Randall - seeing a performance of his on a flight last year rekindled my interest in performing magic after a long hiatus. Magick Balay - good friend and great demonstrator Simon Lovell |

Cellini, who took the time to talk to me while set up next to me at a trade show in Denver.
Michael Ammar who's teaching technique made learning sleight-of-hand just as easy as a course I took years ago that simplified Algebra for me. Ricky J, for all the obvious reasons. Just watching him perform is an inspiration. Andy Dallas, who took time out of his busy schedule in his shop in Champaign, Ill. to talk to me yesterday. Thanks for the autographed poster Andy, I'll hang it in a place of honor.
