I supposed it matters to no one other than me, but there is no "philosophy" side to it at all.
Philosophy is the rational pursuit of understanding Being. It is *not* using high falutin language to dress up one's hobby. I don't have a "philosophy of banjo" or "philosophy of magic" or even a "philosophy of beer drinking". I just play banjo, perform a few sleights of hand, and drink a lot of beer. |

Just how much does one get paid for this ART FORM?
Scot Cram Lets try to remember that juggling is a profession that people get paid to do. It is not anything like this dare devil crap.

I don't see what pay has to do with the validity of an artform.

How much do the actors in a community theatre get paid?
How much does the USO pay? How much does a graffiti artist get paid? How about the poets who contribute to anthologies? How much does a nursing home gig pay? Jam night at the blues club?

Money is not necessary for an art form to be valid, but it sure helps.

Yup, it ain't necessary.
That is until you have to pay for something in order just keep doing that particular Art. With Parkour I'm guessing some medical bills at some time in their career...

Yesterday I gave my grocery store my artistic license, he gave it back to me and told me that he wanted my ATM card instead.

To set the record streight Michael Moschen has never used the term "contact juggling", it was named that by his imitators. I am an old juggler, and camel-backing is a totally new term to me. Has anyone told Michael Moschen that he is not the inventor of horizontal juggling? When you say camel-backing in just gives me naughty thoughts. This whole thing sounds like a load of **** to me.

(Sorry for the earlier typo!) I've learned not to trust info that comes from a single source! I agree with you, Al Angello. Sure sounds like a load. |

The man wrote a book based on Michael Moschen's propritery material, and then makes up a story telling us that it is an old vaudville technique. Unfortunetly all the people that can verify this bogus story are dead. It sounds to me like a fishy story without any proof to back it. Camel-backing can not be verified either at the juggling information service, or at the the juggling data base.

I remember feeling sad for Michael Moschen that there wasn't more outrage from the juggling community when the book we're talking about first appeared.
Many (most?) of the community took an attitude of "Well, Michael COULD HAVE written a book himself. Let's be grateful SOMEBODY did!" And to think that the term "contact juggling" told hold! Salt in the wound. Has Penn Jillette voiced his opinion on this controversy? Guess we've gotten off-topic here. Interestingly, the post that took us off-topic didn't even mention Michael Moschen. |

You know, there are freerunning competitions popping up now. Sometimes they are shown on cable television. There are also video games in development, so somebody is making money on that.
http://www.gamespot.com/psp/sports/freerunning/index.html I remember when people were saying the same things about skateboarding that they now say about freerunning. Would any of us turn down Tony Hawk's bank account? Even after he put his name on one of the worst video games of all time.
