I am wondering who else uses rings on the street, and if so - how many do you use? And do you use 8", 10", 12" or ???.
As a side question, does anyone know what size rings Cellini uses in his two ring routine. They could be 12" but for some reason on the video they look bigger than that to me. Maybe it is an optical delusion, but I am just curious! 12 Inch seems big enough to be seen well, buit hat is about as big as I want to carry extra, even though carrying just 2 sure beats lugging around a full set. I love using rings when I walk around downtown Portland. My rings are five inch in diameter. I carry only four rings with me in a black velvet draw-string bag. My full set consists of nine rings, but I don't like using more than what is necessary.

Like Brian, I used to have an 5" 8 ring set,
and found it was kind of boring to do the whole thing. A few weeks ago my buddy John came over and we sat down and thought it through. Our idea was this: One of the welded rings on an 8 ring set was put in a vise and the weld was wiggled till it broke. We filed both sides of the weld and re bent the whole ring, to a key. We ended up with 2 sets of K,1,2 so I gave him one. Four is about all I can do without burning too much time on one effect. Plus four 5" are much lighter to carry around. I have the same black drawstring. If you make two sets be sure you are picking the right weld.
...think not that all wisdom is in your school. You may have studied other paths, but, it is important to remember that no matter who you are or where you come from, there is always more to learn.

I saw Cellini in lecture and his 2 rings looked SMALLER than 12" (maybe 10").

I use the 10" rings for my act. Though if you are going to get a set, don't skimp on the money. The cheaper sets have weld marks where the rings are joined and no matter how much an audience members knows they cannot get it apart they are convinced that it is a trick in the ring. It is a minor point but one that really makes a difference if you will be handing them out for examination.
As for how many I use I have two routines that I use a set using the triple and a single (no key ring) for when I am trying to get there attention, and Whit Hadyn's comedy 4 ring routine once I have captured the crowds attention. If you do not have Whits routine yet buy the video, the note, and then send him an extra $50, its that good. Mat |
