Well, originally, I was under the impression that the joker tube was a rip-off of the Mak version Strat-O-Sphere, which I was thinking of buying at one point. HOWEVER, upon doing research, I seem to have discovered that the Joker Tube actually works better, and the Mak versions wasn't very well made. I ALSO noticed that it would appear as if the box and the tube for the jokertube have changed. (They look different on penguin's site than I remember them being). Maybe I'm just crazy, but this actually looks worth buying. Any thoughts?

Looks the same to me. I think you are crazy!!! LOL! Now that we have that out of the way, it does look well made but the Joker on the tube is really not necessary (IMHO)and also I prefer the order of the colored circles on the Mak tube. However a little paint.......

Magic Makers sells knock-offs, plain and simple. Cheap, often poorly-made knock-offs sold without the originators permission. Do the ethical thing and buy Strat-O-Sphere from Mak Magic. I've owned mine for five years and it is still working great. I have since repainted it, but the mechanics have NEVER failed me!

Ty, I have to agree with you on that point. However, the Mak Stat-o-Spheres has been out for eons and it has never been updated/improved. For example, little things...... the inside of the outer tube should be painted black and that really ridiculous joker on the box should have disappeared years ago.

I saw one of these at a convention and they work better, better quality and are some different. MAK sells many knock offs that they make. Joker tube works similiar but the quality is much better than MAKS and it is less expensive.

Are the balls from the Joker Tube a better weight for juggling?
I've seen some other Mak products but I think Strat-O-Sphere is the only one I own. I like it and use it. I did repaint the box to get rid of the ghastly joker image, and I painted the tube interior flat black. I also added rubber feet to the bottom of the box so it would sit level. That said, while Magic Maker's may be a "cheap knock-off" I have a hard time imagining you could actually manufacture something and have it seem less well made or of cheaper quality than the Mak product. It's a good effect, but man, the quality of the materials, etc are junk. I would pay more for a version that was well-made. Chance Wolf? |

I've had opportunity to view Stratosphere and Joker Tube side by side (at a bricks and mortar store, I guess I can't go there anymore) and IMO the Joker Tube is the better made product (although I dislike the order of the balls painted on the tube).
As magicbyswh said, Mak Magic wholesales more than just their own products, even "knock-offs"... Oh the dilemma. Search their site for "pen", they have every variety and gosh darn it if that doesn't look just like the Magic Makers versions too... what a world, what a world. |
