Recently I was doing a show at a reservation school. I was floating a child from the audience and when I asked them to get up on the table I said to sit with their legs India.... I’m mean “cris cross apple sauce”.
At the same show I was doing my straitjacket escape. As I was almost strapped in I looked down and saw that my zipper was down. If you perform this escape and have a jacket with a crotch strap you know that sometimes this can be show and tell time anyway. Normally I wear black shorts... but not today! Here I am, all strapped up except my arms and the crotch strap, a headset mic on and I’m trying to tell my wife to zip me up without announcing it to everyone. She loose it, starts laughing and says no way. Meanwhile I have two assistants from the audience standing there wondering what to do next (they didn’t know the predicament I was in). As I gestured with my arms the next step I was able to get it about half up. Oh yea, this was also my closing effect so maybe they knew anyway. I’ll never know. Kent |

I guess that got you a bad feeling but if you don't notice it so will the audience
but if you draw attention to it they will notice it so try to control your mime, go on with your stuff and you will get away with it most of the time Greets |

Cheers!

No one noticed as far as I could tell and I wasn't obvious about it but later I did think about doing a zombie / straightjacket routine. Haha.

That is one of those things that is hard to recover from. Years ago, I was doing a set in a resturant. I really had the audience in the palm of my hand, everything was going great. Jokes were coming off, effects were getting tremendous response. I felt it was one of my best performances. The owner of the resturant was taping my performance (this was in the old reel to reel video tape days). After the show, I went to him and said, "I've got to see that tape, that was the best performance I ever gave" He said "yeah it was pretty good, but next time try doing it with ur fly up" I looked down and not only was my fly down, but my shirt tail was sticking out of it. (And I swear Johnny Thompson had to steal that part of his act from me)
Sure enough in the tape there was my fly predominately open, shirt tail hanging out, and that is what had the audience in hysterics, not my brilliant comedy delivery and routine. To be honest I seriously considered keeping it in the act. I still turn beet red thinking of that night.

I arrived to do a library show in my tux and ready to go. The librarian approached me and said that their were a lot more kids then she expected and could we negotiate a second show for the afternoon. The answer was of course, yes.
Well near the end of my first show, I rip the a** out of my pants. The seam just split wide open. I was able to keep it away from the audience and finish the act, but I had another show to do in an hour. I left the library and found a dry cleaner that did minor sewing repairs. I explained to the lady my predicament and she took pity on me. She gave me somebody else's blanket that was dropped off for cleaning and I wrapped it around myself and dropped my pants in the store front wearing the blanket like a skirt. The pants were quickly hand stitched and returned to me and the show went on. Ah, the glamour of showbiz. Rob |
