And also bare in mind - the kids don't care if they have seen it at housand times they will still laugh - but the parents do! - they are the ones that pay and they expect to see new material year after year.
Hi, Simply not true, I do the same show year after year and make a nice living the parents are happy if you entertain the kids....... , Terry herbert, Terry seabrooke and Alan Shaxon all gave me the same tip when I was starting out, don't keep changing your show polish the one you have so that's exactly what I do, it works great Phillip |

Dear Dan, I just stumbled across your post from 2005. Thanks so much for the compliment I hope your daughter has a chance to see the show again.
You said in your post: "My question is how do you go about putting together a show. I don't mean routining. That I can do. I have a series of tricks and even some jokes and lines here and there, but what I saw last night was a SHOW! It was true entertainment. Come to think of it, he really only did 6 or 7 tricks in the course of an hour! He was just incredibly entertaining and a real PERFORMER as opposed to just a guy who does magic." The show you saw has been put together over the past twenty five years. One of the tricks I do is Stop Lite which I did at my first birthday party at age 16. That trick has been in nearly every kid show I have ever done. My show does not change that often. The reason I bought the trick is that it was cheap. I do a really good Rockey Raccoon routine. I brought it to the Ring 22 meeting last year and member said "That is was great. How long have you been doing working with him." I thought a bit and was surprised that it's been over twenty five years. I few of my friends have asked don't you ever get burnt out doing the same routine over and over. It may seem like the same routine every show, but I look for small bits or ad libs to improve it. I would take the tricks your doing and just keep doing them, the lines, jokes, timing will come with time. If you do your show ten times and find ten small ways to make it better. Your show will be better. I also have to pay my mortgage and other bills every month which is a good incentive to perform well. I really love David Ginns material I have used his snake can routine for at least 15 years. Most of my show is the "Magician in Trouble". Hope this helps Gordon PS My new web site is GordonRuss.com |
